KCSFO Meeting Minutes 9.26.19
Kingston Catholic School Family Organization
Minutes of a Regular Meeting
9.26.19
A regular meeting of the Kingston Catholic School Family Organization (KCSFO) was held on Thursday,
September 26th, at 6:30 pm. The meeting was held at the Broadway campus, with Ms. Zimmer presiding.
In attendance:
Melissa Zimmer (President), Stacey Schuon (Vice-President), Marie DiIulio (Faculty representative) Laura
Geskie (Faculty representative), Jill Albert (Principal), Kelley Hedin (Secretary), Alyson Reidy (Treasurer)
*Additional committee chairs and parents also in attendance
Call to Order: Melissa Zimmer called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.
Minutes: Previous minutes have been reviewed and all points have been cleared.
Introductions: All Board members introduced themselves, and we welcomed the newest members of
the KCSFO- Alyson Reidy, Treasurer and Kelley Hedin, Secretary.
Administration update:
The major renovations have been completed, with some minor items being completed or corrected over
the weekends and breaks.
NYS test scores by KCS students across the board outperformed the county and state . There was growth
in both Math and ELA. In general, NYS 5th Grade math scores were a little lower, and are being reviewed
statewide.
KCS welcomes our new faculty:
Allison Knowles, Grade 6
Emily Hurley, Art
Anthony Carl, Music
Karina Tremiti, Spanish PK-5
Jeanette Mazzerelli, ADAP counselor
Jeanette was present and introduced herself. Throughout the year she will be implementing evidenced-
based programs to encourage children to make healthy choices and build self -esteem. She will work
with children in groups as well as in individual settings. If she is going to be meeting with a child
individually, a letter would be sent home for consent.
Treasurer’s Report:
Our fundraising goal this year is $45,000. The current balance in our account is $4,796.34, excluding the
$4,500 that had been restricted for playground funds. After the purchase of the gym mats, the balance
of those restricted funds is $669.75, all of which is in the operating account.
Old Business/Events:
a) Back to School Picnic: The back to school picnic was very well attended this year.
Approximately 100 hot dogs and 100 hamburgers were served by the KCSFO, and the kids
enjoyed an evening of kickball and playground fun. The uniform swap and the school supply
drive for Catholic Charities were also well received.
b) Back to School Night: Back to school night this year started off with a 30-minute social in the
gym, which allowed teachers to say hello, and parents to see the renovations, before heading to
the classrooms. Next year a quick introduction may be helpful as some parents were not aware
of the new format and were waiting for speeches and formal introductions.
c) Grandparents Day: We had a very positive response to Grandparents Day this year. The church
was full and the grandparents enjoyed visiting the classrooms and receiving pictures, letters and
poems that the students had prepared.
Community Outreach:
School supply drive for Catholic Charities
Pediatric Cancer dress down day with donation
Hurricane Dorian Relief
New Business/Upcoming Events:
a) Family Movie Night, 9/27: The 2019 release of Aladdin will be played in the back parking lot at
dark on Friday. Popcorn will be provided by the KCSFO.
b) Yankee Candle Fundraiser: Paper order forms are due to the main office by 9/30. Online orders
will be accepted through the remainder of the year. A notice will be sent out with the extended
online date.
c) Trunk or Treat, 10/22: A chairperson is still needed for this event for coming years. If you are
interested, please reach out to reach out Melissa. Forms will be sent out to register for trunks
and donate candy. With an additional chairperson, we could grow this event to include a few
activities and decorations. The rain date for Trunk or Treat is October 24th.
d) Silent Auction and Cocktail party, 11/9: This year’s annual auction will have a slightly different
format, featuring a larger silent auction with only a few live items. There will be a harvest table
and passed hors d’oeuvres, rather than a sit-down dinner. We hope to encourage social
interaction and participation. Alyson Reidy and Kourtney Fall are co-chairs. Donations are still
being accepted and are greatly appreciated. Please contact Melissa Zimmer for a donation
form.
e) Discount Card: Eldeva Tofte and Kelley Hedin are putting together the 2020 discount card, and
are still looking for local participation- Several businesses were suggested and Kelley and Eldeva
will continue to encourage community participation. Have or know of a business? Please reach
out for additional information.
f) KCS Walk to School day: Walk to School day will be Friday 10/4, and we will be meeting at the
Maritime Museum between 7:30-7:45. The group will start walking at 7:45. Parents are
welcome to join the walk!

Picture Day for all students is October 9th- Makeup/retake will take place in early December
An IRIS will be sent home to correct the date of the October Family assembly, which will be held on the
First Friday, October 4th.
The auction ticket form will be sent home in the weekly envelope
As an attempt to increase parent involvement with the KCSFO, everyone present was encouraged to
bring a friend to the next meeting.
Next Meeting:
Thursday October 17th 6:30-7:30
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
The KCSFO
