MOSES - THE FIRST EMANCIPATOR
My eyes were filled with tears when I saw the people came out in the name of God and
preaches their own theologies. Where did we lose our conviction? Don’t we have the
determination in serving God? Don’t we believe that the spirit of God guides us through the
hard times? Why are we taking the authorities in our hand? Is my graduated knowledge,
bookish knowledge, Internet knowledge and its wisdom is mightier than the God’s knowledge?
Scroll down for the perfect answers for our pride and vanity.
I am a Software Engineer working in a Top Tier Software company. I was a very talented
guy from my college days. I learnt Carnatic music for fourteen years and performed so many
performances in stage. I was very good at organizing things from the college days itself. People
admire that my administrative skill is extraordinary. When I got saved, a person reached me
and said, use your talents to Glorify and serve Christ. I was happy. But the context I was
encouraged, is not a right one when I went through Moses life. Everyone has an Exodus in their
life, which has three parts as in the Moses’ life.
I. UNDERSTANDING EPILOGUE:
Egypt is compared to the world of the New Testament. The whole life of Moses
revolving around the Exodus of Israelites portrays what happened actually. We Christians are
efficient in picking up a small sentence from a verse and explain it to others, but fail to see it in
the complete strategies.
II. LIFE OF MOSES:
120 years of Moses can be equally divided into three forties. The first forty signifies the
Life at Egypt, the second forty signifies the Life at Midian and the Last forty is about the
Rescuing people from Egypt and sending them to the God appointed place.
a. FIRST FORTY YEARS:
Moses was a healthy, beautiful and a proper child born as an Israelite (Hebrews 11:23).
His parents are Amram and Jochbed (Exodus 6:20). It is believed that Moses lived from about

1525 BC to 1405 BC. Pharaoh devised three wise plans to threaten the large number of
Hebrews ((Genesis 32:24-32) According to the Hebrew Bible, Israelites are the "chosen people"
... The name Hebrews is sometimes used synonymously with "Israelites").
i. Toil them hard in Manual Labour.
ii. Hebrew midwives to kill all the male babies at birth
iii. Throwing the male baby into the Nile River.
It was revealed in Amram’s dream that Moses humbling the Egyptians. To obey the God’s
will as well as the Pharaoh’s command, Amram and Jochbed threw the baby in the Nile river.
But the baby was taken out from the water by the Pharaoh’s daughter and fed by her. Moses
grew as an Egyptian Child in the house of Pharaoh.
The Egyptian scripture says that Moses was a general in Egyptian when they battled
against the Ethiopian Army. He defeated Ethiopian Army and married the daughter of the
Ethiopian king itself. Although these things are not mentioned in the bible, it is believed that
Moses was mighty in His earlier life. But bible proved how efficient that Moses was!! Paul
writes, “And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words
and in deeds.” – Acts 7:22. So Moses was trained well in the Egypt as an Eminent King of Egypt
and a raising Emperor of Egypt. From His birth to the age of 40, he was shining with His skills.
This is an important place where you have to notice the transition of Moses when he
was in the Egyptian land itself. Moses started helping his brethren (Israelites, worked in Egypt
as slaves). Moses’s desire to help His brethren is Admirable but Deplorable. “When Moses was
forty years old, he decided to visit his own people, the Israelites. He saw one of them being
mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the
Egyptian. “- Acts 7:23-24. Here Moses rescued an Israelite from an Egyptian who was beating
him, but later he rescued all the Israelites from the Egyptians who were oppressing them
(Exodus 3:10).

Moses should be touched by God, so that he should not depend on His own abilities but
to rely on God’s strategy and His strength. The instance clearly shows us the effects faced by
Moses when He depends upon His own strength.
b. SECOND FORTY YEARS:
After this Pharaoh (Thutmose III) tried to kill Moses for Legal channels, So Moses
departed from Egypt to Midian. (Exodus 2:11-15). Acts 7:23 explains the same. He started
refusing Egyptian things. (Hebrews 1:24-26). Midianites are none but the descendants of
Abraham (Genesis 25:1-2). Moses was conscious about a thing not to be worldly. Romans 12:2
- Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new
person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is
good and pleasing and perfect. In Midian, Moses married the Jethro’s daughter and
shepherded the sheep flock, which contrasts the life of Moses after he meet God. Moses lived
40 years in Midian.
c. LAST FORTY YEARS:
After this Moses was called by God. (Exodus 3:1 – 4:18). God spoke to Moses through
the Burning bush. This was the first time God revealed Himself to Moses. This was the first time
after 430 years in the History of the Mankind God revealed himself to the Mankind. Even
though God spoke face to face with Moses, God asked him not to come near him, that doesn’t
mean Moses is impersonal to God but it explains God is intensively personal.
After this Moses was instructed by God and sent back to Egypt to deliver the Israelites
from the Bondage. The life of Moses after he met God is the thing that is going to open our
wisdom eyes through spirit. When God invited Moses to serve Him, Moses didn’t accept in the
first call, but he argued. This shows the Confidence of Moses had. Then he agreed.
God performed the mighty things through Moses in the History of Bible to deliver the
Israelites. The name Moses was mentioned 762 times in the Old testaments and 80 Times in the
New Testament, more than anyone. That was not about His life at Egypt but His relationship
with God and service for God, which was quite inspiring. We can feel the 180 degree change in

the activity of the Moses in delivering the people from Egyptian exile. Being an eminent
Egyptian, He didn’t take any decisions in His own. But he sought the God’s guidance for every
step in deliverance.
Generally Israelites were stiff necked people (Exodus 32:9). Moses faced a lot of
troubles on guiding Israelites sheep. By nature sheep are stubborn animals with a tendency to
want their own way. But Moses didn’t use his own talents to guide them, but he pleaded God
every time.
The first forty years of Moses life in the Egypt was brilliant and eminent. (Acts 7:22), and
the later 40 years of His life was fugitive and humble shepherd in Midian. The last 40 years of
life was dynamic and spiritual. After the 120 years of life with 3 different phases of life, Moses
died. The Moses became the important personality in Bible, because Jesus itself spoke about
Moses, “If you believed Moses, you would believe Me” James 5:46.
Ultimately God built the Israel nation with Moses and not the Moses built the Israel
nation by God. God kept Moses as a tool to construct the Israel. God didn’t use Moses’ talents
to deliver the people out of the Egypt.
“But it was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called the son of
Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of enjoying the
fleeting pleasures of sin. He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own
the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward.
It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept
right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible.
It was by faith that Moses commanded the people of Israel to keep the Passover and
to sprinkle blood on the doorposts so that the angel of death would not kill their firstborn
sons.

It was by faith that the people of Israel went right through the Red Sea as though they
were on dry ground. But when the Egyptians tried to follow, they were all drowned.” –
Hebrew 11:24-29
Might be Moses would have taken the Hebrews out of Egypt so easily but he was killed
to take the Egypt out of Hebrews. In the three context of Moses’ life, we can see How God
conquered Moses and used him.
III. MOSES THE DELIEVERER, DESIGNED BY GOD
Moses was called the first Emancipator of the world. Emancipator means someone who
frees others from bondage; "Lincoln is known as the Great Emancipator". Che Guevara, Fidel
Castro, Nelson Mandela are the great leaders of the world who fought for the deliverance of
persecuted society. But before these people, Moses delivered the Israelites with God’s
guidance. You can find a wide range of difference between Moses’ way and other
Emancipators.
The best thing of Moses’s life is, “The fear of the Lord brings the knowledge – Proverb
1:7”. God used Moses to show His deeds to the people of Israel – Psalm 103:7. When Moses
feared God near the burning bush, Moses was humbled and God gifted him the wisdom and
power to deliver the Israelites. It was not the 40 years of education or skills that he learnt in
Egypt facilitated him to deliver the Israelites, but the imparted grace of God. God’s law was
given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more,
God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. – Romans 5:20.
Why do we use our own strengths and strategies to serve God? Today lots of Christians
do this mistake. The main reason is the pride in their mind, I am a graduate, doctor, Guitarist,
singer etc… Some people try to implement even their management techniques in their ministry.
God doesn’t want Moses MBA or Moses BE or Moses MBBS, he simply wants Moses.
The biggest mission of Moses was not only recovering the people Out of Egypt as I said
already but it was taking the Egypt out of them. Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the
Egyptians, but that wasn’t secret of His success or his remarkable endurance as a Leader. I’m

grateful for books, classes, music, politics and teachers, and I have profited everything from
every schools and place I have been. I was an eminent speaker, debater, musician, politician,
socialist but I must confess God that I should be taught only by His word to carry us in His
ministry and not by the knowledge that we gained through the internet or books.
Paul was also an educated man like Moses. This is the reason why Paul insists the
difference of knowledge in the Corinthians Letter.
1 Corinthians 1:18-31 -The Wisdom of God
The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who
are being saved know it is the very power of God. As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the
wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.” So where does this leave the
philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this
world look foolish. Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him
through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. It is
foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek
human wisdom. So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the
Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,
Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the
wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or
powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish
in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to
shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world; things counted as
nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a
result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself.
Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. Therefore,
as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.”

IV. CONCLUSION:
Being a Mighty man of God, Moses sacrificed His 40 years of life at Egypt (World) to save
the Mankind. He didn’t bother about His talents. He might be trained in fighting, so he didn’t
prepare an army within Israelites and armed against the Pharaoh (Amenhotep II). He might
have read the history of His ancestors of Egypt, so that he didn’t get inspired by those histories
and led the people out of Egypt. But it was the God (Yahweh) who operated him in delivering
the people out of Egyptian exile and guides them towards the promise Land.
Barrack Obama, Nelson Mandela, AR Rahman, Sachin Tendulkar may be the greatest
personalities in the world. If they got saved, they cannot turn the people from the death by
their administrative skills and wisdom. It is possible only by the Spirit of God. Today many
preachers show the film celebrities in their ministries to pull the crowd to their ministry.
Salvation is only through Jesus, not by anyone’s own strength and talents.
PRAYER:
Dear Jesus, Thank you for the wonderful abstract you have shown us through the life of
Moses. Thank you for opening our eyes which made us to realize the thing we are dependent
on. Let us refrain from all the worldly practices and please help us to walk in your guidance and
word. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
