“Jesus’ intention was to ‘pass by them.’ Probably this language is meant to evoke epiphany language from the Old Testament, where God ‘passes by’ while revealing His glory. It is doubtful that Jesus merely meant to ‘walk past’ them. Thus Jesus intended to disclose His glory to these men by ‘passing by.’
