DilemmaDilemma Scott Adam is the creator of the cartoon character Delbert. Adams makes
fun of manager in part because he distrusts top-level managers, sayingthat leadership is really a crock.Leadership is about manipulating peopleto get them to do something they dont want to do, and there may not be
anything in it for them.
CEOs basically run the same scam as fortunetellers , who make up a bunch of guesses and when by chance one iscorrect, they hope you forget the other errors. First, CEOs blame theirpredecessors for anything that is bad, then they shuffle everythingaround, start a new strategic program, and wait. When things go well, despite the CEO, the CEO takes the credit and moves on to the next job.Adams says we may be hung up on leadership as part of our DNA. Itseems we have always sought to put somebody above everybody else.
Do you really agree with Scott Adams that leadership isa crock?
Do we really need to have someone in the leadershiprole?

eadership Leadership: the term connotes images of powerful,
dynamic individuals who command victorious armies,
direct corporate empires from atop gleamingskyscrapers ,or shape the course of nations. The
exploits of brave and clever leaders are the essence of
many legends and myths. Much of our description of
history is the story of military , political ,religious ,and
social leaders who are credited d or blamed forimportant historical events , even thought we doe not
understand very well how the events were caused or
how much influence the leader really had.( Yukl)

"...When the Khalifah died the Roman
emperor is reported to have said:
I should not be the least surprised if a
monk renounces the world and busies
himself in worship behind closed doors, but I am simply amazed at this man who
has a vast empire at his feet but he rejected
it and lived the life of a monk....

Definition of leadershipDefinition of leadership Leadership has no single definition.
There are almost as many definitions of
leadership as there are persons who haveattempted to define the concept. Stogdill
1974,p. 259)
Always it seems, the concept of leadership
eludes us for turns up in another form to taunt
us again with its slipperiness and complexity.
So we have invented an endless proliferation of
terms to deal with t.. And still the concept is
not sufficientl defined. Bennnis 1959
