Lacrosse in Sudbury
What is the Greater SudburyLacrosse Association?
GSLA represents all of Greater Sudbury, (Everyone in our organizationis one of your constituents).
Lacrosse = NATIONAL summer sport that has a variety of health andfitness benefits
500 young people play April to August assisted by 100 adult volunteers -600 plus people = we are the biggest user of arenas in the summer
city’s current Parks Master Plan notesTEENS ARE UNDERSERVED unlikeother minor sports organizations we include players up to 21 years of age
also expanding into master 21+ this year with 60 adults playing weekly –we are growing
however, we do see the need to participate in activities that influence thepolicy making process and that have an impact on our organization(would appreciate the opportunity to be represented on theMayor’s Task Force on Recreational Facilities)
FUTURE NEEDS
GSLA –after examining planning documents andpopulation projections - advocates a facility that is
a)multi-purpose –(hockey? indoor lacrosse?field lacrosse and soccer? trade shows?meeting rooms?)
b) we suggest a modern 4 pad facility thatcan accommodate a number of activities atonce: tournaments important economicdrivers –i.e. Whitby 6-plex vs Peterboro 2x double pad
c) located centrally –i.e. Lasalle/Notre Damearea?
Thank You
