Kindergarten Make & Take
Winter Quarter, 2019-2020
Make and Take projects are lesson reminders. The reinforcement materials sent home each week provide parents opportunities to strengthen Bible truths. A variety of activities challenge learners to use new skills learned and practice those they can do easily. Cutting, folding, coloring, gluing, thinking, listening, following instructions—all these experiences are a part of this series of fun-to-make and fun-to-use projects.
Lesson 1, December 1, 2019 The Tabernacle in the Wilderness
Sing the second verse of the new words for “London Bridge” tune as you hand out the project pages. When everyone has a copy, talk about each picture, allowing different learners to tell what is happening in the dif-ferent classrooms shown through the windows. Give the sticker for completing the project. See teaching sug-gestions on the back of project page for further ideas.
Lesson 2, December 8, 2019 The Beautiful Temple
Sing “I Was Glad” with the learners as each receives the project page. Can they say the alphabet? Practice with them for the benefit of a younger learner who may not have learned it yet. Ask each child to place his finger at the letter A and trace the path he will draw from letter to letter. Then provide a washable marker, crayon or pencil for each to mark the missing lines of the picture. Give the stickers for completing the project.
Lesson 3, December 15, 2019 The Wise Men Worship Jesus
Have each learner add the sticker to his project page first. Then, ask him to trace the correct path for the wise men with his finger before using a marker, crayon or pencil. Ask about the king at the bottom of the page to review story details.
Lesson 4, December 22, 2019 The Lord’s Church
Children learn through this unit that God’s house is the church building where we worship. Helping them understand that God’s house is special—different from a family living house—is a desirable outcome for the lessons. Ask learners to place a finger on dot
number 1 with the star. Trace a line to each dot in correct order as you count aloud with them. Then, let them finish the pictures by adding the lines and coloring. Add the stickers last as you point out that people come to God’s house to worship. Children can use good church manners to honor God.
Lesson 5, December 29, 2019 Hannah Prays
This activity will help children understand the relationship of “parts to whole.” Talk about the boy praying in the picture at the top. What else is in the picture? Point to one of the pieces at the bottom. Ask learners to point to the same piece in the whole picture. Repeat the procedure for each puzzle piece. Learners may cut apart the pieces at home and glue them to the whole picture. Allow extra time for the project if learners cut out the pieces and glue them in place during class.
Lesson 6, January 5, 2020 Elijah’s Prayer
Plan for learners to begin cutting out the pieces of this project when they arrive. The broken lines cutting guides allow for the cutting skills of kindergarteners. They will enjoy the figure more if they cut it out themselves. Provide two paper fasteners for attaching the limbs to the body of the figure. Show learners how to move arms so that hands fold for prayer. They can make the boy stand for prayer, kneel, sit or lie down to pray. Use the project to teach that we may pray in different positions.
Lesson 7, January 12, 2020 Nehemiah Prays
Guide learners to work from the back of this project to cut and fold according to instructions printed
there. They should cut on broken lines. Then, fold to the front on the solid lines so that the figures show a bowed head and folded hands for prayer. Talk about why it helps to close our eyes and fold hands. Bowing our heads is a way to show respect and reverence for a holy, great God. Chil dren need to learn that while we can talk to God anytime, during times of prayer when others are praying aloud, everyone should bow his head and close his eyes so that he can think about what he wants to say to God in his heart.
Lesson 8, January 19, 2020 Jesus Teaches Us To Pray
This little book of prayer and praise will help boys and girls know how to talk to God. Cut across the page on solid lines. Put pages together in correct order. Fold on the broken lines. Staple pages together or tie them with a piece of yarn. Give the car sticker to complete page 7.
Lesson 9, January 26, 2020 Peter’s Friends Pray for Him
Learners cut apart the puzzle strips first. Then hand out the second page on which to glue the strips in order so that they form a completed picture. Provide glue sticks for learners to use or teach them how to put just a dot of white glue on each end and in the middle of each strip. It is a big deal to a small child to get to use the glue by himself.
Lesson 10, February 2, 2020 Gifts for God’s House
Coloring is easier when done before cutting out the figures. Learners should cut on the broken lines. Fold in half. Suggest that learners set the figures in their
home to remind them to bring an offering to God’s house.
Lesson 11, February 9, 2020 Joash’s Treasure Chest
Stimulate learner thinking with a picture study of this project. Let learners take turns naming some-thing bought with offering money. Then, use your own classroom to name things offering money bought. Ask someone to point to something that is messy in the picture classroom. Add the sticker to make it tidy. Talk about why we need to care for God’s house to make it clean and neat.
Lesson 12, February 16, 2020 The Poor Woman Gives
Tracing letters makes a child feel he can write, and copying is how he learns that skill. Give pencils for tracing the broken lines of the word. Add money stickers to the offering plate. Talk about the happy children who give to God’s work.
Lesson 13, February 23, 2020 Peter Gives What He Has
Boys and girls want to use puppets and enjoy watch-ing others use them. Make them according to instruc-tions printed on the project page. Then, role-play the story with them.
Award CertificateEncourage learners by awarding certificates to those who have attended regularly. Letter the name and other information ahead of time and give them out during an assembly time.
