The first session has come to a close and was a great start to the Summer program. This past week we got some nice, light breezes and got on the water almost every morning and afternoon. On Wednesday, July 4th we decorated the boats in red, white and blue and sailed with the decorations up. For those not attending any further sessions we hope to still see you at the Wednesday night regattas which will continue for the next four weeks.
Beginner ClassThe beginners have been getting the hang of the
tricky skill of sailing upwind and almost everybody has
sailed solo. They have definitely come a long way from
never having been in a boat before.
Intermediate ClassHaving reviewed the basics last week the
Intermediate class practiced roll tacking, controlled
gybes and lots of race starts. They are also learning
about gusts and lulls and wind shifts which are very
important in an area such as Chesapeake Bay.
Sloops ClassThe sloops spent the week working on boat speed
on all points of sailing. They also practiced roll tacking
which is made even trickier in these boats as precise
timing between the skipper and crew is crucial.

The annual banquet will be on the last week of the sailing program, date to be confirmed. This is a great opportunity for the kids to meet up again. There will be
food, a slideshow of photos from throughout the program and of course the
awards. All of the coaches hope to see y'all there.
