Ontheundersideofthebenchtop,measureandmarkastraightline20mminfromtheedgeofthebenchtop.Thislineindicatestheedgepositionoftheboreholesforthejoiners.
Measureandmark100mmfromtheedgeofeachbenchtop.Measurethespacebetweenthetwomarksanddivideby2togiveyouthepositionofthemiddlebenchtopjoiner.
Sealing the Benchtop: Beforestartingensureallsurfacesaresandedandsealedimmediatelyafteropeningthepackaging.Resealanyareacutwithatleast2coatsofsealerpayingspecialattentiontotheendgrainsincutouts.
Note: Beforestartingtoinstallyourbenchtopitisnecessarytodecideonwhichsideofyourbenchtopwillbefacingupwards.Eachsidewillhavedifferentnaturalcharacteristicsandfeatures.
Important:Itisrecommendedthatyouusetheassistanceofasecondpersontosecurethebenchtopandhelpsupporttheoffcutduringthecuttingprocess.AlwaysusePPEwhenemployingpowertoolsanden-sureallsafetyprecautionshavebeentaken.
Setthedepthofthecircularsawbladetoapproximately10mmdeeperthanthethick-nessofthebenchtop.Theblademustbeatarightangletothebaseplate.Thiswillpro-videaverticalcut.
Cutthebenchtopwiththecir-cularsawmakingsureyoukeepthebaseofthesawagainstthestraightedge.

Measurewhereyouwillbecuttingandscribethebenchtopwithasharpknife.Thiswillreducechippingwhencutting.
Turnthebenchtopoversotheundersideisfacingupwardsandagainscribeusingasharpknife.
Clampastraightedgeparalleltothemarkedline.Todothisyouwillneedtodeterminethecorrectpositionofthestraightedgedependingonthemodelandmakeofthechosencircularsaw.

Note: Workrequiredtostraighten/levelwallsshouldbecompletedbeforethekitchenhasbeeninstalled.However,oncebenchtopsarejoined,thebackedgescanbeplanedortrimmedslightlytosuit.Tiles/splashbacksandsiliconewillhidesmallgapsandinconsistenciesbetweenwallsandbenchtops.
Cuttingmustbedonewithanew,ornewlysharpenedcarbide-tippedblade,suitableforhardwoodtimbers
Workoutthedistancefromtheedgeofthebaseplatetothebladeofthetool.
Thismeasurementneedstobethesameasthedistancethatyouplacethestraightedge(orguide)fromthecutline.
Tip. Whenclampingontothebenchtopensuretheclampshavesoftjawsorsuitableprotectionisplacedonthesurfaceofthebenchtoptoavoiddamage.
Note:Itisrecommendedthatthesawbladeentersfromthefrontedgeofthebenchtop(thesidethatwillbemostvisibleonceinstalled).

Tip. Applylowadhesivemask-ingtapearoundtheoutsideofthecutouttoreducebenchtopsplintering.
Theundersideofthebenchtopandanycutoutsneedtobefullysealedusingyourchosencoating.Thisisbestdonebeforeinstallingthebenchtopintoyourkitchen.
Fixthebenchtoptothebackofthecabinetusingthe90degreeanglebracketsand14mmscrews.Fixthesupportrailusingthe28mmscrewsthroughintothebenchtop.
Itisrecommendedtodrillanelongatedholeonthesupportrail.Thiscanbeachievedbydrilling2x5mmholessidebysideandusingthedrillinaswayingmotiontojointheholes.Thiswillallowfornaturalexpansionandcontractionofthetimber.

OncethePVAgluehasdried,carefullysandthewholebenchtopusing120gritsandpapertoremoveanygluemarksorunevensurfaces.Finishwithlightlysandingusinga240gritsandpaper.
Coatyourbenchtopwithyourdesiredsealantmakingsuretoreadthemanufacturer’sinstructionsoncorrectapplicationanddryingtimes.
Rememberthatthewholebenchtop,includinganycutouts,mustbecoated.
Applyatleasttwofinishingtopcoatstoyourbecnhtop.
Finishbyapplyingabeadofsiliconebetweenthesplashbackandthebenchtop.
Hint:Youmayneedtopullthebenchtopforwardslightlytoworkonthefrontjoiner.Pushitbackintopositionwhenworkingontheremainingjoiners.Ifthisisnotpossible,drilla50mmholethroughthetoprailofthecabinettoallowaccesstothejoiners.
Biscuits:Whenjoiningbenchtopsyoumaywishtoconsideraddingbiscuits,astheycanassistwiththealigningandreinforcingofthebenchtops.

Thebiscuitjoinerisdesignedforcuttingandjoining.Itprovidesanaccurate,effectivemeansofjoiningnaturalwoodormanufacturedbenchtops.Forproperusage,pleaserefertothemanufacturer’sinstructions.
Ifyourbenchtopshavebeenpurchasedwithpre-cutbiscuitslotspleaseskiptostep4.
1.Marklocationofthebiscuitstobegluedbetweenbenchtops.Ensuremarkingsallowforevenspacingbetweenbiscuits.Asageneralrule,biscuitsshouldbeequallyspacedbetweenboreholes,withthefirstbiscuitslotinsertedbetweenthefrontedgeofthebenchtopandthefirstborehole.
2.Cutbiscuitslotswiththebiscuitjoiner(refertomanufacturer’sinstructions).Ensurethebenchtopisproperlysecured,asconsiderableforceisrequiredtopushthebladeintothebenchtop.
3.Removeanysawdustanddebrisfrombiscuitslots.
4.Aftercuttingthebiscuitslots,itisbesttotrialjoinbiscuitstoensureproperfitbeforegluing.
Placethebenchtopsintopositionwiththetopsidesfacingupward.Liberallyapplyexteriorwoodworkingglue(PVA)tobothfacesofthejoin,ensuringthatbothjoinfacesarecompletelycoveredwithglue.Donotusesilicone.
Pushthe2piecestogether,andstartingfromthefrontofthebenchtopinsertthejoinersintotheholesasshowninthediagram.Alignthetopandfrontedgeofthebenchtoptoensurethatitisevenandflush.Gentlytightenthejoinersuntiltheyholdintopositionwitha10mmopenendspanner.
Tightenthebenchtopjoinersinsuccessionsotheyaresecurewhilstensuringthetopofthebenchtopremainsflush.Youmayneedtogentlytapthetopwitharubbermallettoachieveaflushjoin.
Removeanyexcessgluewithadampcloth.
Note: Donotovertightenbenchjoiners.Overtighteningmaycausethebenchtoptocrack.
