We were very proud to have Matt Austin as our
“New Members Information
Meeting” guest speaker. He is the Chief
Financial Officer and a Director for
Blanning & Baker. Our meeting was held on April
25th at our District Office in San Bernardino. He
gave us an update on the latest PECG issues and
also discussed the benefits of PECG membership
and Representation. Jane Pham, Corporate
Secretary, acted as the emcee for the meeting.

Inland Empire Section members participated as Judges at the Riverside
County Science & Engineering fair held on April 2-3, 2019 at the Riverside Convention
Center in the City of Riverside. The Science and Engineer fair is an annual competition
of science projects designed, developed, and displayed by elementary and secondary
students from schools in the Riverside County.

Yamileth Shimojyo of the Riverside County Office of Education presented to the IE Sec-
tion a plaque to thank us and recognize our generous contribution to the annual River-
side Science and Engineering Fair and for our ongoing support of the youth and the public
education in Riverside County. The Inland Empire Section awarded three Scholarships in
each division of competition.

Inland Empire Section members participated as Judges at the San Bernardino County
Science & Engineering fair held on April 2-4, 2019 at the Auto Club Speedway in the
City of Fontana. The SIM Science and Engineer fair is an annual competition of science
projects designed, developed and displayed by elementary and secondary students from
schools in San Bernardino County.

The Inland Empire Section awarded three Scholarships to each division of competition.
Elementary Division Students in Grades 4 through 5 received awards of $250, Junior
Division Students in grades 6 though 8 received awards of $750 and Senior Division
Students in grade 9 though 12 received awards of $1,000. The best projects are selected
by the Inland Empire Section PECG member judges.

Engineering Fair Award Ceremony.

Community Outreach
PECG members at the SoCal Bridge Presentation on May 7th, 2019 at Taft Charter High
School in Woodland Hills. PECG and Caltrans administer the TRAC & RIDES programs
that allowed these students to apply for the national contest, hosted each year by the
American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
The “judges” were invited to a practice session for Chicks with Sticks, the first all-girls
team to represent California at the national competition. Also, the first team from
Southern California to compete nationally at the National Bridge and Structure
Competition on May 21st in Park City, Utah.
