MIDWEEK REFRESHER
READ: Luke 3: 10-18 REFLECT: When Luke writes his gospel several decades after the Ascension, it is the Church, through the ministry of the apostles, which is conferring Christian baptism in the Spirit. His account is certainly not without a basis in history, but what interests him most is the history of sal-vation which continues to unfold in the primitive commu-nity. The expectation of an imminent end is fading. The Baptist's exhortations to conversion take on a new mean-ing. They are a challenge to transform our everyday lives. In this reading Luke introduces us to crowds of people of good will from every walk of life. Attentive to the Precur-sor's preaching, they have become aware that they must change their lives. Like the, we ask, "What must we do?" As the prelude to any conversion, we must renounce all self- sufficiency; we must acknowledge the necessity of being pierced to the heart by a word which will draw us out of ourselves. Thus, in the circumstances of our own lives, we must accomplish the obligations of social justice, mutual aid and charity. We join those innumerable people who open their lives to the unforeseen, to form a "people in waiting". Precursors still rise up among us. The pre-pare the way by setting before us the great questions of life and death. God's prophets refer to one more powerful than themselves, the one whom we await: Jesus Christ, who continually baptizes us in both fire and the Spirit. PRAY: As we approach the celebration of the great mys-tery of the Incarnation, pray for the grace of conversion, turning our hearts once more to that which matters most in our life, our salvation in Christ Jesus. ACT: Prepare the way of the Lord in your life.
MEANING OF THE ADVENT WREATH The Advent Wreath traditionally contains four candles: Three Purple and One Rose. The candles are lit as follows: Purple-First Sunday of Advent (symbolizes Hope) Purple-Second Sunday of Advent (symbolizes Peace) Rose-Third Sunday of Advent (symbolizes Joy) Purple-Fourth Sunday of Advent (symbolizes Love) White-Christmas Day (symbolizes Angels and Christ) Having an Advent wreath is a wonderful tradition to start with your family. Usually the first candle is lit by the youngest in the family.

Counting and sharing our blessings, we at Immaculate are very blessed by all that we do to share our goods with our neighbors. Such as soda can pull tabs for Shriner’s Hospital, Box Tops for Education, glasses for Haiti, ink cartridges that we recycle, clothes for St. Vincent DePaul, and food for our pantry. We have begun to collect new and slightly used shoes, sneakers and new socks for the homeless at St. Fran-cis House in Boston. As always, we thank you for your generosity and ask God to continue to bless us! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
