KARAKTERISTIK GAS IDEAL

GAS IDEAL Molekul-molekul gas didalam suatu ruangan
Semakin tinggi temperatur gas, maka semakin besar kecepatan geraknya
Yelmida A. 5
Diperlukan suatu persamaan matematik hubungan antar variabel property gas didalam ruangan, terutama tekanan (P), temperatur (T), dan volume ruangan (V).
Diasumsikan adanya suatu jenis gas yang mempunyai sifat ideal
Sifat-sifat gas ideal yang diinginkan adalah:1. Gaya tarik-menarik antar molekul gas
diabaikan.2. Total volume molekul gas diabaikan
Yelmida A. 6
Yelmida A. 7
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE IDEAL-GAS EQUATION AND THE GAS LAWS If the quantity of gas and the temperature
are held constant then: pV = nRT
V = nRT / p V= (nRT) * (1/p)
V= constant * (1/p) (Boyle's law)
Yelmida A. 8
If the quantity of gas and the pressure are held constant then:
pV = nRT V = (nR/p) * T
V = constant * T (Charles's law)
Yelmida A. 9
If the temperature and pressure are held constant then:
pV = nRT V = n * (RT/p)
V = constant * n (Avogadro's law)

PERSAMAAN UMUM GAS IDEAL

USE OF THE IDEAL GAS EQUATION
Numerical example: 1.00 mol of gas at 1.00 atm of pressure at 0.00°C (273.15 K) occupies what Volume?pV = nRT
V = nRT/pV = (1.00 mol)(0.0821 L atm/mol K)(273.15 K) / (1.00 atm)Therefore: V = 22.4 L
0 °C (273.15K) and 1 atm pressure are referred to as conditions of:Standard Temperature and Pressure (STP)
The MOLAR VOLUME of any ideal gas is 22.4 liters at STP
Yelmida A. 15
Example
1. Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6 ) is a colorless, odorless, very unreactive gas. Calculate the pressure (in atm) exerted by 1.82 moles of the gas in a steel vessel of volume 5.43 L at 69.58C.
Solution. Because no changes in gas properties occur, we
can use the ideal gas equation to calculate the pressure.
Yelmida A. 16
2. Calculate the volume (in liters) occupied by 7.40 g of NH3 at STP. Solution Recognizing that 1 mole of an ideal gas occupies 22.41 L
at STP and using the molar mass of NH3 (17.03 g), we write the sequence of conversions as :
grams of NH3→moles of NH3→liters of NH3 at STP
so the volume of NH 3 is given by :

KAPASITAS PANAS Jumlah panas yang dibutuhkan untuk
menaikkan suhu sejumlah massa zat sebesar 1 o
dTdimana n = jumlah mol m = massa zat C = kapasitas panas
Yelmida A. 20
a) Untuk Proses Isometrik (volume konstan, dV=0)
dQ= Cv dT Jika Cv suatu konstanta, hasil integrasinya :
Q = Cv ∆T Untuk proses isometrik, dV = 0 maka W=0,
∆U = Q = Cv ∆T
Yelmida A. 21
hukum I TD : ∆U = Q – w, maka :dU = Cp dT – pdV ataudU + pdV = Cp dT = dQ , integrasikan :
“ Perubahan entalphi sama dengan panas yang ditambahkan “.
∆H = Cp ∆T = Q

PROSES POLITROPIS
dQ = Cv dT + p dVQ = ∫Cv dT + ∫p dV
Yelmida A. 31
PV = konstan

DEVIATIONS FROM IDEAL GAS LAW BEHAVIOR: VAN DER WAALS EQUATION
Dua problem dari teory Kinetic Molecular Gas "Ideal“ : Gas particles are much smaller than the
distance between particles, therefore the volume of a gas is mostly empty space and the volume of the gas molecules themselves is negligible.
There is no force of attraction between gas particles or between the particles and the walls of the container
Yelmida A. 34
"REAL" GASES: VAN DER WAALS EQUATION
a: Constant to correct for intermolecular attractive forces
b: Constant to correct for volume of individual gas molecules
P: Pressure - Atmospheres (atm), torr, mmHg V: Volume - Liters (L) n: Amount of gas - moles (mol) T: Temperature - Kelvin (K) R: Ideal gas constant = 0.0820057 L-atm/mol-K =
62.3243 L-torr/mol-K = 62.3243 L-mmHg/mol-K
Yelmida A. 35
Conditions are "Ideal" at:
- High Temperature- Low Pressure
Conditions are "Real" at:
- Low Temperature - High Pressure
Deviasi akan semakin besar jika : Intermolecular attractive forces (IMF)
dari molekul gas sangat besar. Massa (dan volume) dari molekul gas
sangat besar.
Yelmida A. 36
WHY? At High T, the gas molecules have a higher average
kinetic energy (KEavg) which overcomes the IMF. At Low P, the gas molecules are spread further apart
and can therefore avoid IMF. P of a real gas < P of an ideal gas because the actual
paths of gas molecules are curved (not straight) due to the IMF.
V real gas > V ideal gas because V of gas molecules is significant when P is high. Ideal Gas Equation assumes that the individual gas molecules have no volume.
Yelmida A. 37
Plot of PV =RT versus P of 1 mole of a gas at 0°C.
For 1 mole of an ideal gas, PV=RT is equal to 1, no matter what the pressure of the gas is. For real gases, we observe various deviations from ideality at high pressures. At very low pressures, all gases exhibit ideal behavior; that is, their PV=RT values all converge to 1 as P approaches zero.
