Iğdır ProvinceIğdır ( Turkish: Iğdır ,Armenian: Իգդիր, Azerbaijani: İğdır , Russian: Игдир,Persian: گدیرای ) is a province in eastern Turkey, located along the border with
Armenia, Azerbaijan (the area of Nakhchivan), and Iran. Its adjacentprovinces are Kars to the northwest and Ağrı to the west and south. Itoccupies an area of 3,587 km²[1] and population of 179,839 (2006 est.), itwas 168,634 in 2000 (up from 142,601 in 1990).
Turkey's highest mountain, the Biblical Mount Ararat (Ağrı Dağı) is in Iğdır,but much of the land is a wide plain far below the mountain. The climate isthe warmest in this part of Turkey, cotton can be grown in Iğdır. Iğdır iswhere Noah is said to have thrived following the flood. The Armenianborder is marked by the Aras River.
The caravanserai of Zor, believed to have been built by an Armenian
architect in the 13th
or 14th
century, is located 35km south-west of the cityof Iğdır, and is named after the nearby village of Zor. It is one of haltingplaces between Batumi- Tabriz High-way. Carvans used to stay over-herebefore passing over Çilli pass restoration works have been started for thissubject ork of art which has been put under protection in 1988.[8] The ruinsof an Armenian church was once located in the same area, but todaynothing remains of it.[9]
Sürmeli castle, 25 km west of the city of Iğdır and on the road to Tuzluca,is the site of a medieval Armenian town. However, it is currentlyinaccessible due to border restrictions.
Statues with Ram Heads, Cementer stones with ram heads existingalmost in all old cementers in Iğdır Plain are remnants from Kara Koyunluperiod. These cementers of brave, heroic persons and young persons whohad died in youth age.[10] The Bible relates that when the flood watersreceded, Noah and his family descended from Mount Ararat toward thefertile Igdir plain. From here, their progeny settled to the south and westalong the Firat (Euphrates) and Dicle ( Tigris) rivers, establishing thesecond generation of mankind. From this plain, you have the best view of Mount Agri with the ever present snow over its slopes and peaks.
Olive groves cover this area, and the dove, which allegedly brought an
olive branch to Noah, is believed to have taken it from this wide grove.Monuments to visit near the city include Urartian rock monuments, a 13thcentury Seljuk Caravanserai and the Karakale (Black Castle). In Karakoyunvillage, on the road between Igdir and Aralik, you should stop at theimpressive 15th century cemeteries with Karakoyun (ram and ewe)monumental tombstones.

so close. And realy too much hstorical places actualy ı cant count all of them. And we have huge lake –VAN LAKE-. On this lake we go for thevarious water sports. And in our city we have many festivals. Every weekhorse riding from city to the Mounth Ararat(AGRI MOUNTEIN).
And educational projects, we are going to match our cirriculum. And forthe pupils every visits has different kind of spesifications. For exampletaking photos, learning national folk dances, national music equipments,and natural, historical places. We have big garden and every week –spacewatcing night- with our telescopes. Open air cinemas etc.
