“Verizon Wireless, the national sponsor for the HowieDay ‘Music Unleashed’ campus tourevent, working in conjunction withthe Campus Activities Board andThe Buzz 88.3 FM, were able tooffer SBU students as well as theoutside community an excellentticket price for this event,” saidSteve Plesac, director of studentactivities for St. Bonaventure. “Webelieve this show will yield a greatturnout and that the students andcommunity will enjoy Howie Day’sperformance.”

Day’s newly released CD, “StopAll The World Now,” was recordedat Olympic Studios in London,England, during the spring of 2003,and is his first full-length album forEpic Records. Four of the 11 songson the album incorporate a 25-piece orchestra, including“Numbness of Sound,” “I’ll Take You On,”

“She Says” and “Collide,” which recently made it intothe top 10 on the national music charts.

The album was produced by Youth, the same produc-tion company responsible for The Verve and CrowdedHouse, and mixed by Michael Brauer, who’s mixed forDavid Gray and Coldplay, as well as Chris Lord-Alge,who’s worked on albums for Eric Clapton and the Goo GooDolls.

“Stop All The World Now” explores Day’s experiencesfrom the road over the course of four years of touring as asolo artist, opening for artists such as Sting, Jack Johnson,John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, and most recently, Tori Amos.

Day spent August touring out West, playing at venuessuch as Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Houseof Blues in Las Vegas, Nev., San Diego, Los Angeles andAnaheim, Calif., and the Crystal Ballroom in Portland,Ore. Additionally, this summer Day played select supportdates with the Dave Matthews Band and headlinedBuffalo’s “Thursday in the Square” this past June, playingto thousands of appreciative concert-goers.

His first CD, “Australia,” wasreleased independently in 2000 andsold more than 30,000 albums fromword-of-mouth buzz alone. Day hasalso released the “Madrigals EP,” acollection of live tracks and demos.

Day has built a solid fan base, andone way he has been able to accom-plish this is by allowing and encourag-ing fans to record his shows for theirown personal use and to trade withother fans. He boasts the Howie Daytrading board (www.hdtb.com) wherefans can trade concerts online, and the“Rep Program,” a marketing techniqueto encourage word-of-mouth publicity.For promoting Howie Day, hanging upfliers, selling CDs, etc., fans arerewarded with special contests andprizes where they can win posters,autographed CDs, T-shirts, merchan-

St. Bonaventure University’sFamily Weekend will be highlightednot only by musical entertainment, butalso by the first-ever Bonagany StreetFestival, a family festival completewith music, food and entertainment thatwill pay tribute to the strong ties sharedbetween SBU and Allegany.

The fall fair will be held from noonto 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, on MainStreet in Allegany. Features include ahistorical display that marks the 150th

anniversary of the arrival of the Franciscan friars in WesternNew York, a student club and organizational fair and free musicby Hotel California, an Eagles tribute band.

Allegany restaurants will be showcasing their favorite dishesalong the sidewalk and inflatables, including a giant slide androck-climbing wall, will be available to all ages in the parkinglot of First Tier Bank. The rain site will be the covered complexat the Allegany Fireman’s Park off North First Street.

t. Bonaventure University isinviting the community to join in its cel-ebration of the 150th anniversary of thearrival of the Franciscan friars inWestern New York in June 1855.

The friars began construction of St.Bonaventure University and founded St.Pacificus Parish in Humphrey, whichwill mark its 150th this fall, that sameyear.

The celebration, which will includean academic lecture, historical displaysand spiritual remembrances, is a firststep in marking the 150th anniversaryof the founding of St. Bonaventure onOct. 4, 1858, which will be celebratedthroughout academic year 2008-09.

“We welcome members of the com-munity to participate in this celebrationof the arrival of the friars, whose pres-ence is integral to who we are as a community and as aUniversity,” said University president Sr. Margaret Carney,O.S.F., S.T.D.

The celebration will begin with an academic lecture,“The Coming of the Friars,” by Fr. Dominic V. Monti,

O.F.M., vicar provincial of the Provinceof the Most Holy Name of Jesus, at 4:30p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in The Regina A.Quick Center for the Arts. Until his electionas vicar provincial, Fr. Dominic, arenowned church historian, most recentlyserved as a professor of theology at theUniversity. He is a native of Bradford, Pa.,and a 1967 graduate of St. Bonaventure. Areception will follow in the lobby of theQuick Center, where movable displays ofhistorical artifacts and photos will be set upfor viewing.

At 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, the FirstSesquicentennial Mass will be celebrated inthe University Chapel with an all-campuspicnic to follow in the Reilly Center Arena.

During the Bonagany street festivalfrom noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, onFamily Weekend, the displays will be

moved to a booth so local residents, St. Bona families andhistory buffs can enjoy the photos and artifacts. A remem-brance of the friar founders of the University will be incor-porated into the Prayers of the Faithful at Masses on Sept.18 and Sept. 25, when the displays will be on view in theChapel.
