Dear Hawkins Families,
Wow! The talent we have at Hawkins is amazing! Thank you to all those who
attended our Hawkapalooza it was a great way to raise money for our Science
Department and show off our student’s and staff’s talents. Some of you were
able to see a little hint of it at our Hawkapalooza event last Thursday evening.
But the talent doesn’t stop there, we have several students who have a variety
of talent from placing in the State Science Fair, to students performing in the
local production of Annie, to being a part of the USA Junior Olympic team in
water polo, to the amazing talents you’ll see at our Hawkins Talent Show next
week and we can’t forget our amazing staff band, the Alkizzle & G Funk Or-
chestra. We have much pride in our Hawkins students and the amazing talent
they show both in school and out of school. The DARE Graduation last week
was also talent filled as we saw some of our students perform singing and
dancing along with Alexis Webb allowing me to read her award winning es-
say. Again, we have amazing students!
We are coming down to the last four weeks of school (17 days) and there are
many events coming up for all our grade levels. Wednesday, May 9 is the last
general HPFC meeting of the 11/12 school year and will be held at 3:15 p.m.
in the Library. The results of the election will be shared and the transition to
the new board will begin. Open House is on Thursday evening beginning at
6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. What a great opportunity to see all of the wonderful
student work each classroom has been working on throughout the school
year. The HPFC will be selling hot dogs and pizza beginning at 5:00 p.m. in
the gym. Our 5th grade parent meeting is at 5:45 p.m. in the Library, our 6th
grade team is excited to share the upcoming year’s plans. We send off our
second grade classes to visit the Oakland Zoo on Friday and luckily they
won’t have a need for umbrellas, unlike last year. Friday is also a big day for
our 8th graders as they share their Portfolios with staff members and district
office staff. This is one of their last requirements as they move towards high
school. We are all looking forward to their presentations.
All 7th grade parents, please continue reading on into our newsletter because
we need your help!
We look forward to another fun filled week!
Best Regards,
Stephanie Gregson

Intra-district Open Enrollment for the 2012-13 School Year
A message from Superintendent Dana Eaton
Some of you may wish your child/children to attend one of our schools instead of their assigned or current school. In an effort to possibly accommodate these wishes, the district has in place board policy 5116.1, which allows you to complete an intra-district atten-dance request form. These forms are available at all
four school sites, the district office and www.jeffersonschooldistrict.com. Please return your completed form to any school site or the district office
between May 1 and May 15.
Intra-district requests will be considered only if there is space available at a particular site and grade level. Throughout the spring, I will be closely monitoring the enrollment and grade level numbers at each site.
Families will be notified of the decision the first week of June.
If you are interested, a copy of the board policy 5116.1 is available at the district office, 1219 Whispering Wind
Drive, or on the district website.
The School Year for
2012-2013 begins:
Monday,
August 13th!
Congratulations
to
Mrs. Amato’s 6th
grade class for
winning last
week’s Spirit
Award!
