NPDL & Our School Learning Journey - Reflecting Back● Natural alignment with our SIPSAW (From the WHAT to the HOW) and our transferable
skills focus through the HPED Globally Minded Learners and Leaders competencies;● Cross curricular approach at PECI (All grades and pathways):
○ The Arts, Science, Business, Math, Canadian & World Studies, and Physical Ed.● Connection with our Curriculum Services Team supports has been invaluable to support
teacher learning in the various domains;Key Staff Learning: Understand that there are innovative teaching dimensions for us to learn that would help facilitate new competencies we want our students to learn;Our Team mindset: Afford ourselves permission to try new things with a growth mindset and focus on quality of learning over quantity of content. We focused on tweaks to current practice to inspire sustainable changes in daily teaching instruction as opposed to ‘one off’ projects.
● Priority is creating a collaborative learning culture in the school ● 4 main areas of focus - literacy - numeracy - assessment - NPDL● Initially 6 teachers interested in changing teaching practice/pedagogy● 8 teachers participating this year with more interested● (3) Science, (1)Math, (1)French, (2)CWS, (1)English● Alignment with our AEAC (Academic Excellence in Applied Courses)
learning teams and SIPSAW● Support from Curriculum Co-ordinators - critical for success● Sharing with NPDL learning team, at PD days, informal classroom ● Developing growth mindset of staff and students - student and staff
engagement in learning

NPDL & Our School Journey - Planning Forward● Continue the NPDL skills focus either formally or informally through our school learning
culture. Innovative teaching is essential for all grades and pathways. We know that it happens most effectively when we plan, act/try, observe, reflect and share alongside one another;
● We have observed the NPDL mindset leak into other courses naturally through staff department leadership (“leading from the middle”) and teacher discourse. It is becoming ingrained in our teaching practices. We plan to more intentionally go deeper with our HPE Competencies model and use formal teacher collaboration (ie. PD days, learning teams) to grow the deep learning approach as it propels us along the learning continuum:
ENTERTAINMENT ... ENGAGEMENT ... EMPOWERMENT Passive …. Active … Ownership/Leadership
NPDL & Canadian World Studies● Year 1 Focus: CGC 1D Citizenship and Critical Thinking partnered with Green Learning
