OUR GOALS: • Prepare you and your 8th grade student for high school
by: • Providing information on graduation requirements (HB 5)
and what is being proposed by the state. • Sharing information on graduation requirements so that
family discussions on Endorsements can begin. • Sharing other important dates and upcoming activities.

Personal Graduation Plans
• This academic year, parents & 8th grade students will create a plan for high school years and beyond.
• Counselors will work with 8th grade students to discuss credits, grades, GPA, junior school promotion & high school graduation requirements.
• Additionally, counselors will talk to students about life beyond high school (college & careers).

What is a Credit? • One credit = 1 full year in a class
• One half credit = 1 semester of a class
• To earn credit:• Semester average must be 70% or better• Must attend 90% of days

• General rule:• Should have an “A” in current on-level class • OR an “A” or “B” in current Pre-AP class

January 28, 2014 • GCCISD Career Fair at Robert E. Lee High School
February 17th, 2014 • 8th grade students will attend High School Orientation at High
School Campuses during the school day.
February 17, 2014 • 8th Grade Parent Elective Night at high schools. Gallery Walk of all
electives will be showcased.
February 25-March 11, 2014 • 8th Grade students will complete course selections and 4 year
graduation plans in Naviance.
