Dear parents, Queen’s Birthday Holiday—The media is ‘alive’ with articles covering Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee cele-brations. Next Monday Australians will celebrate the Queen’s Birthday holiday. Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday. Plumpton Education Community (PEC) Confer-ence. Just a reminder that school will be closed on Tues-day and Wednesday whilst all staff are undertaking profes-sional development to keep their awareness of new skills and techniques as current as possible. We thank all par-ents and families for making alternative arrangements for your children on these two days. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 are due to return to school on Thursday. Current Research on Rewarding Students. Printed alongside, from the Telegraph newspaper is an article out-lining some current research findings from the Australian Catholic University. As a school, we are always interested in hearing what research has to offer us in advising parents and devising the best possible programs for students. For some time now the topic of ‘rewards’ for students has been a controversial one. Questions about whether or not: all students should receive awards so they all feel
valued as opposed to only giving awards to those who deserve them;
giving awards to students for simply doing what they should be doing;
making a ’big deal’ of giving awards to students who normally don’t get them;
giving verbal praise as opposed to awards or med-als;
we should have a ‘Gotcha’ award system where stu-dents who are seen doing the right thing get awards; and
the types of awards eg ‘funny money’ compared to praise
are just some of the questions we need to answer. Most importantly, we are constantly trying to be consistent with all students and that is a very difficult thing to achieve. Perhaps you have some views about how the award sys-tem should operate. If you do and if you would be willing to share them, please email them to the school account. For the subject line, please type ’Attention Miss Foley or Mrs Osborne.’ Hope the weekend has lots of fine weather for everyone! Doug Meaney Principal

MESSAGES REGARDING LATE COLLECTION OF STUDENT Please phone before 2.30pm with any messages if you will be late picking up your child. SCHOOL CANTEEN The canteen operates on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday each week. Any payments or orders for the canteen should be taken directly to the canteen. LUNCHES If parents need to bring lunches to school after 9am, we would ask that you wait until 11.15am, when you will be able to gain a pass to your child’s class and then be able to take the lunch to your child.
PBL UPDATE The value of the week is ‘I am respectful’ and it is at the heart of all social interactions. Within the Glendenning Public School community; staff, students and parents alike endeavour to uphold this common belief. Respect is expressed not only in what we say, but more importantly, through our actions as well. ‘I am re-spectful’ is a value that is evident throughout our school; students using their manners to simply say ‘please’ and ‘thankyou’ when asking for something, staff promoting respect through patient actions and words, and parents invaluable role as teachers of this value. ‘I am respectful’ gives everyone the same opportunity to feel successful, valued and positive about them-selves, irrespective of age or gender.
STEWART HOUSE CLOTHING COLLECTION Glendenning Public School is holding another clothing drive for Stewart House.
If you have any good, clean, wearable clothing at home which you would like to donate to Stewart House please put them in the bag provided or any other plastic bag will do.
Stewart House bags are to be left in the Admin Office foyer.
