A new semester of Watermark University

starts this month! Check out the fifty

courses in our Spring 2019 catalog and

sooth your soul or energize your body. There's something for

everyone, from Coin Collecting to Tai Chi. Times and dates are

building postings for updated information and detailed

descriptions of each class.

If you've ever tried Paklava (the Armenian take on Baklava) you

know that it is a delicious pastry brought to the United States from

the Mediterranean and Middle East regions. While making it

yourself may seem an intimidating task, it's really not all that

difficult to make. It does take some practice and patience to create

perfection though. Join Community Life Associate, Tania Kazanjian

to learn the basics of creating Paklava at home, and sample some

authentic Armenian Paklava!

January 2019

The Gardens

Welcome to 2019! Each year

we wrap up the year with

celebrations and family

gatherings, and then January

1st creeps up on us and we

realize that we're about to

begin another new year. What

does that mean to you? While

you may no longer make

resolutions for things like your health, financial well-being, and

other specific goals for your wellness, it's important that we all

take on the new year with a focus on what we will do to continue

living an invigorating life. Will you read through the Watermark

University catalog and find a class in which you can learn a new

hobby or study the changing world in a new way? Will you pick up

a new fitness class like Tai Chi, Yoga, or Ping Pong to give your

heart and muscles a pick-me-up? Whatever it is, remember that

there is always room in our lives to introduce something new. Don't

be afraid to challenge yourself, and have a great year!

In With theNew! Swelling of the legs, feet and ankles is a

common problem in seniors. The

medical term for this is edema. Edema is

the trapping of excess fluid in any part

of the body, but occurs most commonly

in the ankles, legs and feet. Usually

swelling of the legs and feet comes on

gradually and may not be noticed

immediately. If edema is accompanied

by shortness of breath, difficulty

breathing, chest pain or one leg is

swollen while the other one isn’t, the

patient should seek immediate medical

evaluation. The treatment of swelling of

the legs and feet depends on the cause

of the edema. The onset of swelling of

the legs, ankle or feet requires an initial

evaluation by a medical care provider to

determine the cause. If you notice the

onset of swelling in your legs, feet or

ankles, have it checked out.

Path to Well-Being

Some of our friends in the Gardens like to be on the move. Whenever,

there are activities elsewhere in the Fountains such as the Town By

Center they like to get out and visit. They end up "killing to birds with one

stone so to speak because not only are they able to take in new sights of

the Town Center they are also able to get in some exercise. For those of

our friends in the Gardens who aren't able to walk around the very large

community, they are able to engage in Positive Moves every morning in the

den. There they learn exercises that keep their joints and muscles from

becoming stiff. We plan on continuing our exercise regiment into the new

year in order to stay fit.
