Everyone is participating 5S personal workspace mandatory Assist with common workspaces (project
files, kitchens, copy & supply rooms, storage areas)
If time allows, computer workspace
Review ALL files, folders, drawers, hanging memos, even food storage areas in your office - Sort
Designate as “Original” or “Copy” and follow UW procedures & guidelines - Straighten
Wipe down shelves, desk & floor areas - Shine
Consistently do it for everything - Standardize
Repeat practices in future – Sustain Remain calm, work hard & use common
sense - Safety
Use a stool or step ladder for cleaning high shelves & windows
Ask for help to carry or move heavy items
Check and untangle computer cords, plugs and electrical outlets. *Report any potential hazards.
Examples of “stuff” found36 boxes of paper for shredding, 14 boxes for archives, 5 extra file cabinets, 35 boxes of used binders, 350 pads of expired time cards, 1000 extra plastic forks, leave forms from 1998, financial reports from 1971, a plastic lobster and typewriter cleaner from 1953!!
