- 2002 Godhra Train Carnage
- Post-Godhra riots
- Shah-e-Alam Relief Camp of Ahmedabad
- Emergent state's role in the violence
- Calling for Federal Intervention
Shah-e-Alam Relief Camp, Ahmedabad
“Balatkar ka matlab jab aurat ko nanga karte hain aur phir use jala dete hain”
"women were stripped, raped and burnt.” State colluded in the
massacre of its own citizens
mutilated women
scarred by this macabre, twisted image of rape
Butchered got away
Survivors relegated to the margins of Gujarat's towns
Victims were life sentenced
Remain Wound Challenges
-Nobody wants to remind this violent
-The court narrative is still “unfolding”
-State fails to give “justice and protect rights of minority”
-Justice “eludes” the victim of Gujarat
-We cannot “legislate to ensure justice”
-Victims are calling us to “restore equality of the law”
-We have to fill the “lacunae”
-We have to ensure criminal culpability for those in command.
-To caught the murders with “the knives in their hands”
-But, now we still give up : the hope of better India
A loops of one’s own The Hindu, October,2012
TOILET = ugly, funny, dirty, joke ?
- Toilets appear trivial and become low down list of stated development priorities.
-To clean up our streets and road sites = to remove the slum dwellings=to remove the eyesore.
-Never thought that to provide equality
-We use private toilet, many people use "open defecation"=that is open air toilet
OPEN AIR TOILET : Uttar Pradesh
ASSAM VISIT
Out of sanitation issue, TOILET is considered for health, privacy, dignity and gender rights issue.
-There 12,000 people are crowded in tents
-Everyone defecate at the same place as draw water for cooking
-Water kept for bathing at the same place as they defecate
- Women needed toilet desperately, nobody will know when use it, to “hold on the dignity”
