Jose Olvera Isabel Corpus Teralyn Crill
My name is José Armando Olvera and I am a mechanical
engineer student currently in my 3rd and final year at
Cabrillo College. This semester I got a job as a MESA tutor
and have joined the Abroad club as the Scholarship
Chairman. My goal is to transfer to Santa Clara University.
I have loved the idea of becoming an engineer for years.
Taking a trip to Plantronics, I was amazed by the designing
process and production making of products that we tend
to take for granted. I hope to follow in my father’s
footsteps and give back to the people who have supported
me and helped me on my journey to stepping foot on that
stage and being able to hold that engineering diploma high
and proud. When I’m not busy studying or working as a
tutor or as a candy seller at Marini’s at the Beach, I try to
keep myself occupied with friends and family. I love many
different kinds of sports, particularly soccer, basketball,
and volleyball. I am a Manchester United faithful.
My name is Isabel Corpus and I am an Electrical
Engineering student at Cabrillo College. I love engineering
because you can see the designs in your mind come to life
by applying your knowledge. I am not a conventional
engineering student considering that I am a very creative
individual, in fact conceptual theories are my favorite
matters to contemplate. I hope to one day give back as a
professional electrical engineer through experiences
similar to the Engineering Abroad Program. I am currently
a full time student, President of the Engineering Abroad
Club, and work as a teaching assistant for the Engineering
5 course offered at Cabrillo College. My hobbies include
soldering projects, event planning, meditating, painting,
dancing, and reading.
I am Teralyn Crill, an Engineering student at Cabrillo
College. When I first came to Cabrillo, I did not meet with a
guidance councilor, which ended up being a mistake. I had
no idea what engineering was, but because I had a knack
for math and science, I ended up spending my first two
years studying a mixture of math, digital media, chemistry,
and horticulture. It wasn’t until my third year of college
that I caught the eye of the Engineering Department Chair
after my name appeared in the newspaper for a
horticulture achievement. She encouraged me to take
Engineering 5, and I’ve never looked back. My favorite
subject is physics, but I want to apply my knowledge to
engineering, which will allow me to make a positive impact
on the world outside of research and discovery. Right now
I am majoring in Materials Engineering, and I am only one
year away from transferring to San Jose State University.
This will be my first excursion outside of the US, and I
could not ask for better company or a better cause.

Christopher Sweeney Chris Reinoldson Brandon Faria (TA)
I am a transplant from Pennsylvania and have just recently
started to figure out what I'd like to do with my life. I
returned to school a year and a half ago after years of
mishaps and adventures, and hope to transfer to SJSU's
aerospace engineering program in the near future.
Eventually I want to contribute to space travel in some
way, working for NASA or SpaceX or a similar organization.
My name is Christopher D Reinoldson but my friends call
me the Lion King. I am a Civil Engineering Student with one
more year left at Cabrillo before I transfer to either Cal
Poly SLO or San Jose State. I am so excited to go abroad
and help those in need. At Cabrillo we have spent many
hours working together in the theory of Engineering. At
last we get the opportunity to get out of the textbook and
enter the real world with real Engineering applications. I
love building! It started with legos and ultimately I believe
that building is what has led me to Civil and Structural
Engineering.
Brandon Faria grew up in California's foothills on his
family's farms, where he formed a strong respect for the
natural world. He was also exposed to machines,
equipment, and tools, as well as how to build and repair
things. After pursuing an education in ecology he was
drawn back to the land to run his family's farm. He has
now returned to school to study mechanical engineering,
where he plans to combine his natural mechanical skills
with ecological principles to develop sustainable
technologies and devices. He currently works as a
mechanical engineering technician and does construction
projects on the side. Brandon enjoys rock climbing,
building things, backpacking, and jumping in puddles.

Daniel DeLeon Jaqueline Mendoza Jaben Melville
As a student who's having trouble deciding his course of
study, either civil or mechanical engineering, being a part
of this project is an amazing opportunity that will help
guide me in making this important decision. Other than
living in Guadalajara, MX for a couple years, I have lived in
Santa Cruz my whole life. I decided to study engineering, a
couple years after graduating from high school, when I
found myself continuously asking why nature behaves the
way it does and how we've come to utilize nature to
benefit society (in both good and bad ways).
I’m Jaqueline Mendoza, born and raised in Santa Cruz and
21 years of age. Majoring in biomedical engineering at
Cabrillo College is the path I am on to being able to
integrate neuroscience and engineering
(neuroengineering) for work in prosthetics. I am also a
senator for Cabrillo College; and I work at the Santa Cruz
Neurofeedback Center where I have learned and gained
experience in neurofeedback and more general
biofeedback practices. I also love engaging in solitary
activities such as taking long walks on the beach and
indulging in heavenly meals.
What interests me and becomes cool about living as
humans grow their capabilities is creating the phenomena
of the future from past contribution. The things I learn,
things I observe and read about, the things I love, permit
me to connect the dots and share. I enjoy Engineering’s
efforts combined in dynamic groups resulting in a legacy
worth the candle. Consciously striving for improvement in
the areas knowledge, giving, fairness and health each day I
value the study of Engineering which encompasses these
principles.

Alam Figueroa Liam Dougherty Benjamin Lagace
I am from Mexico and I have been living in the US for four
years. I graduated from Aptos High and this is my second
year at Cabrillo College. My major is Electrical Engineering,
but I am still considering other majors. My hobbies are
soccer, swimming, karate, and running. I am also a big fan
of Halo. I can watch "Shrek" multiple times, consecutively,
and still laugh every single time. I cry everytime I watch
the movie "UP" and love eating Mole and "tres leches”
cake.
My name is Liam Dougherty and I am an electrical
engineering major in my 2nd year at Cabrillo. A Santa Cruz
native, I grew up hiking, skateboarding, biking and
fostering kittens for the animal shelter. I currently enjoy
studying the physical sciences, playing keyboard and
composing rap music with my friends (they sound how you
might expect but they’re fun to make). I’ve become
interested in sustainability engineering and new energy
technologies after learning about this program. I hope to
transfer to University in a couple years and find an
enjoyable job where I can continue my pursuit of
knowledge.
I'm am studying mechanical engineering, no longer in my
last year at cabrillo, and planning to transfer to San Jose
State. I grew up in belize, on a botanical farm, have worked
hard and played hard, and moved to Santa Cruz in april
2012 to start Cabrillo. I enjoy the outdoors, biking and
soccer, although I have not been doing either lately (too
much study, no play!).

Melissa Pardo Caroline Bannerman Tryston Cruz
My name is Melissa Pardo and I am originally from a very
beautiful country in South America, Colombia. I am
currently seeking a degree in Aerospace Engineering
because helping people and understanding this world is
my target in life. I have always been passionate about art
and science. I love mechanics, books, mysteries, pianos
and good food.
I am an Environmental Engineering major in my 2nd year
at Cabrillo. I grew up in Santa Cruz surfing, hiking, and
playing volleyball. I have always loved being outside and
exploring new places and it is my hope and passion to be
able to dedicate my life to delivering resources to those in
the world who have little or none. I want to transfer to UC
Berkeley or Cal Poly SLO in 2018.
I am an Environmental Engineering major in my first full
time semester at Cabrillo, but I have attended math
courses here during high school for two years. I plan to
graduate from Cabrillo with an A.S. in Engineering in 2 ½ -
3 years. After graduation I will take a gap year to go on
missions then Lord willing transfer to Cal Poly San Luis
Obispo. I have a passion for serving God by serving people,
and the Engineering Abroad Program is a perfect example
of what I want to do after I earn my degree. The need for
purified water, sanitation, disaster proof housing,
nourishment, and sustainability is present across the globe
and I want to help. My favorite places to be are anywhere
around family, church, and in foreign countries. Things I
like to do are play/create music, build things, and be
athletically active. I look forward to the path ahead. “But
you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises
of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous
light. ” 1Peter 2:9
