is why, in the future, an increasing number of geothermal power plants will be built in
order to exploit geothermal energy at depths of up to 5000 m. Steam systems use steam
from natural underground reservoirs directly to generate electricity. Binary cycle systems
are able to produce electricity at lower water temperatures by means of a secondary cycle
or can use the geothermal energy for district heating, for example.
Pumps and valves must operate efficiently and reliably in these systems and also withstand
extreme conditions. High-performance products are required for use in the geothermal
water loop, feed water and condensate transport or in heat recovery for district heating.

Steam systems.Steam systems use geothermal water at temperatures of up to 250 ºC. The steam that reaches the surface drives
the turbine directly.
A variety of pumps and valves are used in these systems: reinjection pumps, which return the cooled geothermal
water back underground; condensate pumps, built from materials able to withstand the mineral-rich geothermal
water; and cooling water pumps that have already proven their worth in many conventional power plants.
With its wide range of pumps and valves, KSB is well equipped to meet the challenges of steam systems.

Binary cycle systems.A binary cycle geothermal power plant is suitable for geothermal
water temperatures up to 180 °C. The heat is transferred to a
second cycle, an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) or a Kalina cycle.
Here, fluids which vaporise at a lower temperature than water
are used to drive a turbine.
Special feed pumps are used to circulate fluids such as isobutane,
isopentane, or water-ammonia mixes in this cycle. Circulating
pumps enable residual heat to be utilised for district heating.
Reinjection pumps ensure that the cooled geothermal water is
returned below ground.
The second cycle is not required if the geothermal heat is pumped
directly through a heat exchanger for use in district heating or in
industrial processes, for example.

Description: Single- or multistage, single-entry centrifugal pump in
ring-section design for vertical or horizontal installation. Non-return
valve or connection branch on option. Mixed flow hydraulic systems
available with reduced impeller diameters.
Application: Handling of clean or slightly contaminated water in
general water supply, irrigation and spray irrigation systems, maintain-
ing / lowering of ground water levels, in mines, fire-fighting systems,

Hyamaster SPS
Description: Control system for pumps with three-phase motors of

Description: Self-cooling frequency inverter which allows the motor
speed to be varied continuously by means of standard signals and
a field bus. Because PumpDrive is self-cooling, it can be mounted on
the motor, on the wall or in a cabinet. Control of up to 6 pumps
without an additional controller (with PumpDrive Advanced).

Description: The PumpMeter device is an intelligent pressure transmit-
ter for pumps, with on-site display of measured values and operating
data. The device consists of two pressure sensors and a display unit.
It records the load profile of the pump in order to indicate any

Description: Flanged end diaphragm valve; shut-off and sealing to atmosphere
by diaphragm; straight-way pattern, body with or without lining, position
indicator with integrated stem protection. DN125–200 with threaded bush.
All moving parts are separated from the fluid by the diaphragm.
Maintenance-free.
Application: In building services, industrial plants, power stations; suitable
for abrasive and aggressive products such as service water, waste water, acids,
