The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Korea Advanced In-s tute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and the Ins tute for Machine Tools and Factory Management (IWF) of the TU Berlin offer the Dual Master’s Degree Program in Sustainable Manufacturing.
Students design individual qualifica on profiles to match their profes-sional career planning.
Qualifica on profiles result from combina ons of course modules out of the following module groups: Produc on, Engineering, and Informa-
on Technology coupled with Sustainability Aspects. Project work on sustainability is integrated into the interna onal course GET (Global Engineering Teams) of the TU Berlin. Further elements are a technical module, an internship and a master thesis.
Sustainability is becoming a growing concern in the industry and engi-neers are facing new challenges in produc on fields which demand competencies in sustainability issues.
The dual degree in Sustainable Manufacturing promotes so skills in intercultural communica on and coopera on as well as technical com-petences in manufacturing processes and tools, modeling and simula -on, quality control and economic evalua on, while integra ng sustaina-bility aspects.

Since its founda on in 1971, the Department of Mechanical Enginee-ring has been playing a pivotal role in promo ng educa onal and research in Korea. The research ac vi es are rooted in six fields namely
Nano/Micro Systems Technolo-gy, IT-based Intelligent Mecha-nical Systems, Thermofluid and Energy Systems, Biomedical System Engineering, Mecha-nics & Design Innova on and Pro Human Engineering.
Department of Mechanical Engineering
KAIST is located in the metropolitan city of Daejeon, known as the Silicon Valley of Korea. Daejeon is home of various private and public research ins tutes, centers and Science parks (i.e. R&D centers of Samsung, LG, Korea Aerospace Research Ins tute, etc) crea ng a unique environment for innova on and development of high-end technologies. KAIST is considered the top technical university in Korea and belongs also to the top 10 top universi es in Asia and to the top 100 worldwide. It was placed 21st worldwide in the ranking of best universi es in the field of technology and IT.
The Department Assembly Technology and Factory Management orientates its research and development according to industrial and technological tasks. In doing so, it is pre-eminent to exploit poten als for economiza on resul ng from the manifold interac ons between products, opera ng material and organiza on of facili es and their peripherals, as well as the consistent implementa on of innova ve technology and organiza on forms. The main focus lies on computer-aided assembly planning and control, prototypic realiza on and experimental tes ng of assembly processes and systems, applica on of sensors for assembly processes as well as alloca on of work and facility management.
