  • Dr. Ann Laura Stoler taught at the University of Michigan from 1989 to 2003 and has since been at The New School for Social Research. She has worked for some thirty years on the politics of knowledge, colonial govern-ance, racial epistemologies, the sexual politics of empire, and ethnography of the archives. She has been a visit-ing professor at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, the School of Criticism and Theory at Cornell, Birzeit University in Ramallah, the Goethe University in Frankfurt,and the Johannesburg Workshop in Theory and Criticism. Her commitment to joining conceptual and historical research has led to collaborative work with historians, literary scholars, and philosophers, and to the creation of a new journal, Political Concepts: A Critical Lexicon, of which she is one of the founding editors.
