Interface Concept has released two new 6U Open
VPX products. These two boards are designed to
meet the most demanding needs of embedded high
performance computing applications. Two on-board
Intel Core i7 (IC-INT-VPX6a) and one Freescale
QorIQ T1042 or T 2081 processors (IC-FEP-VPX6b)
offer maximum computing power.
The IC-INT-VPX6a SBC is available with up to 16GB
of DDR3 SDRAM(1333Mhz) and comes with a rich
complement of high speed I/O. The IC-FEP-VPX6b
features 2 banks of DDR3 SDRAM and 1 SRAM DDRII
per Virtex-7 FPGA as well as 2 FMC slots. In
addition, PCIe advanced switches on both boards
allow different coupling combinations between the
multicore processors, the FPGA’s and the fabric
links.
Basic Firmware includes U-boot and a boot-loader
developed by Interface Concept and OS support
includes LSP Linux distributions and VxWorks. Both
products are available in standard and conduction-
cooled grades. Providing unparalleled data
processing capabilities in a single-slot 6U VPX form
factor, the IC-INT-VPX6a and IC-FEP-VPC6b serve as
an ideal open-architecture building block for next
generation Defence C4ISR applications.
4DSP announce the release of a new FPGA
Mezzanine Card (FMC – VITA 57.1) for high-speed
data acquisition and generation. The FMC163
provides one 12-bit A/D channel at 4Gsps (or dual-
channel at 2Gsps) and one 14-bit D/A channel at
5.7Gsps (2.85Gsps direct RF synthesis). The design
is based on Texas Instruments ADC12D2000RF
Analog-to-Digital converter and Analog Devices’
AD9129 Digital-to-Analog converter.
As the only conduction-cooled capable module in
this frequency range, the FMC163 provides high-
performance analog I/O and, when combined with
FPGAs and DSPs, offers an excellent solution for
demanding real-time, embedded applications in the
communications, defence, and medical industries.
It is especially well-suited for low-power aerospace
applications where the highest level of performance
is required while ensuring that mission range is not
affected.
The FMC163 can be clocked by either an internal
clock source (optionally locked to an external
reference) or an externally supplied sample clock.
In addition, a trigger input for customised sampling
control is available. It has a high-pin count (HPC)
connector, front panel I/O, and can be used in a
conduction-cooled environment. The analog signals
are AC-coupled, connecting to MMCX or SSMC
coax connectors on the front panel. Flexible control
of clock source is possible through serial
communication busses.

Ballard’s popular OmniBus product line is a family of products that enable computer
systems to communicate with avionics databuses for a variety of purposes including testing,
simulation, and validation. The high-density modular design of the OmniBus family provides
flexibility that enables the user to select from many protocol, platform, and channel count
combinations.
New Features Include:
Latest 6th generation protocol engines for faster I/O and processing capabilities
Enhanced timing synchronisation and control features
New protocol modules with advanced test and simulation capabilities
The new OmniBus II family consists of three main product platforms:
OmniBusBox II
The next generation appliance for databus test and simulation in a lab environment. It can
run tethered (controlled by other computers through USB or Ethernet) or stand-alone
(automatically executing your application at power-on).
OmniBus II PXI Express Interfaces
Used in multi-slot PXI Express and CompactPCI Express test systems, enabling them to
interface with multiple avionics databuses for testing, validating and simulating commercial
and military avionics equipment and systems.
