Defence forces can’t procurejammers; Govt tweaks policy

NEW DELHI, Jan 21: In a surprise move, the

Defence Forces have beenbarred from procuring jammersunder new guidelines unveiledtoday by the Government whichwill now allow only states'police and jail authorities and

central security agencies like IBand RAW to buy the equipment.

The decision to keep Defenceforces out of the list of autho-rised agencies is significant asquestions were raised on thenow-defunct Army's TechnicalSupport Division (TSD).

The TSD, which was set upduring the tenure of the contro-versial former Army chief (nowUnion Minister) General V KSingh, who was accused of car-rying out unauthorised opera-tions. The jammers imported bythe TSD for evaluation purposecould not be accounted for afterthe Government decided toclose the TSD.

There was no mention ofDefence Forces being allowedto procure in the new guidelines.(PTI)Include implementation of
