Beeman’s annual CanBMan Food Drive wasonce again a huge successwith students, facultyand staff collectingmore than 4,200cans.
They exceededlast year’s total bymore than thousandcans.
Beeman said heowes a lot of thehard work and dedi-cation to his students.He said that theyplayed a big role inthe success of thecan drive, and hewanted them to getrecognition for theirjob well done.

Brother Charlies shelter lastFriday. Several studentswere humbled by the ex-pereience. “Knowing thatwe we are helping others
was a very rewarding feel-ing,” said senior Yuli Dela-paz who assisted Beemanwith the delivery.
When they arrived atthe shelter, most of theselves were empty.
With the holidays justaround the corner, many
people have ahard time supply-ing food for theirfamilies. “Mr.Beeman inspiredthe whole class tojoin in and helpout for a goodcause,” said sen-ior Ken Nguyen.
Senior Kate-Ellen Deanagreed. She said,“Knowing that Iand my fellowclassmates had arole in helpingfamilies by bring-
ing food to the table thisseason inspired me themost.”
Competition Cheer competes for Region
The Tift County High SchoolCompetition Cheerleaders willhead toColquitt Coun-ty tomorrowfor the Region1-AAAAAAAcompetition.
Over thecourse of theirseason, theyhave placedfirst in everycompetition,facing theirmajor com-petitors,Colquitt andLowndes. Go-ing into theRegion com-petition, they are undefeatedregular season champs.
The results of this weekendwill determine their path tothe State finals. Winning firstplace advances them directly
to State. Placing second, third,or fourth place will require
them to compete at State Sec-tionals, where the top 8 teamswill advance to State.
“We are practicing like wealways do,” said HeadCoach Christy Ca-vanaugh. “We evenpracticed the same time[Monday] even though itwas Halloween!”
Cavanaugh recog-nizes the importance ofcontinuing to work hardheading into Region;however, she feels asthough they have a goodshot at taking home firstplace yet again. “At thispoint we have beat bothof our competitors everysingle time we`ve goneup against them.” Theirgoal is to do the same to-
morrow.
Nearly 200 students have perfect attendance for the first nine weeksTift County High
School Principal Kim Sei-gler would like to com-mend the following stu-dents for their perfect at-tendance during the firstnine weeks of school.
Seigler tries to stressthe importance perfect at-tendance. She says, “Per-fect attendance says a lotabout a student's workethic and is linked to theiroverall success.” She isproud of these students fortheir dedication and theircommitment to their edu-cation.

Mike Beeman and several of his students delivered over 4,200canned good items to the Brother Charlies shelter last Fridayafter school.
Next Friday, November 11, TiftCounty High School seniors willbe apply to participate in the annu-al Georgia Apply to College pro-gram.
On Apply to College Day, sen-iors will have assistance from theTCHS guidance counselors as wellas representatives from ABAC,SRTC and VSU. While the repre-sentatives from these specific col-leges will be assisting them, sen-iors are not limited to theseschools. They can apply to anycollege of their choice.
Last year, counselors and col-lege representatives assisted nearly100 seniors as they applied to over25 different colleges. Most stu-dents applied to two or more col-leges.
“The goal of the program is foreach student to successfully com-plete at least one college admissionapplication using the
GAFutures.org website,” said TiftCounty High School GuidanceCounselor Paige Wells.
November also functionsas National Scholarship Month.Therefore, Georgia Student Fi-nance Commission (GSFC) repre-sentative Angie Wilson will be inattendance to answer questions thatseniors may have about financialaid and the HOPE scholarship.
Governor Nathan Deal pro-claimed November as “GeorgiaApply to College” (GAC) Monthto provide high school seniors anopportunity to apply to college us-ing GAfutures.org with a focus onproviding assistance to first genera-tion students, minorities and stu-dents from rural areas.
In order to participate, seniorsare encouraged to sign up in theguidance office for an appoint-ment.
For any additional information,seniors are encouraged to contacttheir guidance counselor.

The competition cheerleaders have taken first place at every meetthis season. They will compete tomorrow for Region.
Today the Blue Devil Brigadeand Ladies Auxiliary are visitingseveral elementary schools, giv-ing the younger students a tasteof what band life is like.
Curt Kimbrough, the TCHSband director, said that they arevisiting schools in hopes of re-cruiting new band members. Thistype of exhibition has been suc-cessful before. Junior AdamScarborough, who plays the Mel-lophone, made the decision tojoin the band after the brigadecame to his elementary school.
“When I saw how everyonecooperated together, and howthey looked in their uniforms, Icould see how much hard workand dedication went into theirperformance; I knew instantlythat I wanted to be a part of that.
Being in the brigade is a wonder-ful [experience]; it's the thrill ofa lifetime being so easily accept-ed into this group of people whodidn't judge me for who I was orwhat I had done in the past, butinstead focused on my dedicationto the band,” said Scarborough.
Not only will the band mem-bers perform, but band studentswill also demonstrate how thevarious instruments are played,from the drums to the wood-winds, and they will performnumbers from this year's half-time show, “Brigade in the Ele-ments.”
Kimbrough said that they arenot doing anything special toprepare for today's exposition.“We have been learning thesesongs since July,” he said.

Brigade visits elementary schools
On Wednesday eightTeaching as a Profession stu-dents attended the FutureGeorgia Educators’ (FGE)Day at Middle Georgia StateUniversity.
During the Opening As-sembly, Keynote Speaker,Casey Bethel, 2017 GATeacher of the Year, sharedhis experiences with the stu-dents and talked about theimportance of becoming“alive” in the classroom. Heeven said that he “never feltso alive” until he became ahigh school teacher.
According to LinseyShockley, FGE adviser,
Bethel was veryenergetic and en-couraged the audi-ence to becomethe best teachersthey can be.
After the open-ing, students at-tended two ses-sions that gavethem insight intoteaching strategiesin the areas suchas science, litera-ture, and criticalthinking.
They also attended a col-lege fair where they wereable to glean information
from Valdosta State, AlbanyState, LaGrange, MiddleGeorgia and many others.

FGE day includedQuay Miller, JadaSears, LaketricReddick, JaliyahHunt, UlyssaSoto, LupitaQuezada, BrookeSnow, JaliyahHunt, Jada Sears,and Shelby Stuck-ey.
Miller said theexperience wasbeneficial. “I hadlots of fun partici-
pating in all of the various ac-tivities. I also enjoyed the GATeacher of the Year speaker.”Miller added, “I'm ready for
the next FGE Day.” Sears agreed. She said,
“I can't wait for the day that Iget to change lives and seesmiles on my student's faces.This will bring great joy tome. Choosing to become ateacher is a choice I made asI hope to change lives daily.This will be the biggest bless-ing of all!”
The next FGE Day isplanned to take place at Val-dosta State University on No-vember 15.
Shockley added that shehopes that students will con-tinue to gain inspiration fortheir future teaching careers.
