• CPD should by definition be continuous. Waiting until the final weeks of December to complete your 15 hours cannot be classed as continuous. • CPD is monitored not just for hours completed but also for the relevance of the content.
• If the relevant Retail Product Category for your function is not listed after a particular lecture in this brochure, then the content of that lecture has not been accredited for your area of practice.
• If you’re registering for a lecture via iiiConnect you will only be able to see and register for lectures that are accredited for your designation(s).
• Similarly we’ve now introduced a filter system to iiiConnect which means that only e-learning relevant to your designation will be available for selection.
• You can now fulfil your ethics requirement of 1 hour either online or face to face.
• Surplus CPD hours cannot be carried over from one year to another.

Corporate Governance: encouraging ethical behaviourDivorcing business strategy from ethics and values is a high risk approach for any institution. In formulating strategy and related corporate policies, boards should seek to ensure that ethical behaviour, particularly in the treatment of consumers, is both supported and encouraged. This session explores the notion of ethical governance and the formal and informal organisational systems that influence ethical culture, which in turn influences the relationship with the consumer.4 5

Customer Value Management: enhancing the customer experienceMuch has been written on ‘Big Data’ and how the use of analytics can be transformative for business, however, less has been written on the best way to weave analytics in to business operations, while maintaining the best interests of the consumer. This question is even more complex for the insurance industry, as analytical models were already woven into its business before any talk of 'Big Data'. We need to understand how insurance companies can continue to apply analytics to its customer base in the best interests of the consumer. Looking at Customer Value Management in the round is the first step to answering that question.

Information asymmetry and insurance market efficiencyAsituationinwhichonepartyinatransactionhasmoreorsuperiorinformationcomparedtoanotherisknown as information asymmetry. In insurance markets, information asymmetry occurs when the insured has more knowledge about their risk profile than the insurer. The common view is that asymmetries of information present significant difficulties around insurance pricing. Insurance companies can reduce the extent of information asymmetry by pooling information on past claims. In this session, the speaker will address the question of whether insurers’ information about past claims should be pooled, thereby eliminating informational asymmetries and providing more accurate technical pricing for consumers.
