Nevertheless, Macao is a place with long history and its heritage
and monuments represent the coexistence of eastern and western
cultures. In 2005, the Historic Centre of Macao, a collection of over
twenty monuments and sites was inscribed on the UNESCO World
Heritage list, making it the 31st designated World Heritage site in
China. The Historic Centre of Macao includes monuments such as
urban squares, streetscapes, churches and temples. They are the
A-Ma Temple; Ruins of St. Paul's the Holy House of Mercy, Senado
Square and St Dominic's Church etc.
Macao is expanding rapidly from a small village to become the Las
Vegas of the Far East and it is claimed to be the “Monte Carlo of the
East”. More and more luxurious hotels are now opened in Macao
which includes the Sands Macao, Wynn Macao, Venetian Macao
and the MGM Grand Macao etc.
Furthermore, various of Museums from Wine Museum to Grand
Prix Museum, though Macao is a rather tiny place in the world, yet
it is a place with a rich past, culture and patrimony. It is this rich
history that makes the specific cultural heritage of Macao, which
we can observe in the various Museums of the city as well as in its

By Air from Japan to Hong Kong
Another way from Japan to Macao, one can first flight to Hong Kong and transit by ferry
/Helicopter to Macao. There are number of flights from Tokyo, Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Nagoya,
Osaka, Okinawa and Sapporo to Hong Kong. The major services providers are listed as follow:
The ferry services to and from Hong Kong and Macau is available in the Hong Kong Island or
on the Kowloon peninsula, each operated by TurboJET and The Cotai Strip CotaiJet, First
Ferry respectively.
Passengers may also choose to take the ferry directly from the Hong Kong International
Airport, however, please be noted that the ferry schedule is run on limited frequency. Please
check in advance if the schedule matches with your flights.

Public Buses
TRANSMAC www.transmac.com.mo and TCM http://www.tcm.com.mo/ are the two bus
companies operating all public buses in the city. There are no conductors so it is necessary for
you to have the appropriate change in coins before getting on a bus. Information of fares and
operating time are as follows:
For the trip within the Macao Peninsular, the fare is MOP $3.2.
• Several bus lines going further to the islands of Taipa and Coloane charge MOP $4.2
to MOP $6.0.
• The trip to Macao International Airport on the island of Taipa from the Macao
Peninsular is MOP$4.2
• The operating hours of most buses are from 6:00 to 24:00.
Buses to University of Macau:
Bus No.11 stops at the University Library. Otherwise, buses No.21, 21A, 22, 25, 26, 26A, 28A, 30, 33, 35 and AP1 stop nearby
the University at the New Century Hotel bus stop.
Free shuttle bus service between New Century Hotel bus stop and University bus stop
is available from Monday to Saturday (no service will be provided on Sunday and
public holidays), or it takes around 2 minutes to walk from New Century Hotel bus
stop to the University campus.
Taxi
Taxis in Macao are in two colors, black and yellow. The black cars have a pale yellow top on
each and the services of the yellow cars can be arranged through telephone booking without
extra cost. The phone is (853) 2851 9519
The fares for both cars start from MOP$13 for the first 1,500 meters and MOP$1.5 is added for
additional every 230 meters. MOP$1 is charged per minute for waiting. For one piece of
luggage carried in the boot, you need to pay MOP$3.
A taxi trip from the Macao Peninsular to the outlying islands of Taipa and Coloane costs extra
MOP$5, in addition to the meter and for the taxi trip from Taipa to Coloane, MOP$2 is
surcharged. However, no surcharge is made for return trips from outlying islands of either
Taipa or Coloane to the Macao Peninsular.
A single taxi trip from the Macao Peninsular to University of Macau costs around MOP $60.

World Heritage
At the 29th Session of the World Heritage Committee hosted by the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO), on 15th July 2005, The Historic Centre of Macau was
successfully inscribed as a World Heritage Site, making it the 31st
site in China to be granted this status.
The Historic Centre of Macau is the product of cultural exchange
between East and West spanning over 400 years, and is currently the
oldest, the most complete and consolidated array of European
architectural legacy standing intact on Chinese territory today.
