History of the Monitor
• Ferdinand Braun inventor of CRT in 1897– first widely used display tech
• Consisted of an electron gun and screen coated with phosphor dots
-- electron gun would shoot electrons,
phosphor dots glowed when struck
-- each pixel contained three phosphordots (Red, Blue, Yellow), could reproduceany colour

• Peter Brody created first LCD screen in 1972
-- grid of liquid crystals with three transistors behind
every crystal
-- could generate the entire colour spectrum, produced sharper images than the CRT monitors
Function of the Monitor
• An output device, displays images and videos generated by the computer’s graphic card

• Monitors that require info in analog use a VGA connection (Most CRT monitors)

• Monitors that require info in digital use a DVI connection (LCDs uses digital, but some can accept analog info)
