even if the meaning of the words is corrupng under the offensive oppressions of relavism of all kinds, and their meanings are rambling, at length the truth is revenging and compelling itself recognion, so natural that you feel nothing really happened.
For a few years now, six - more exactly, the totem is revenging at Tirgu Mures, a powerful echoing word, a finding of linguisc and mental archaeology, a niche category like, an isolated/en-clave concept, a smulus for our lyric-abyssal feelings or a strict cultural reference, a simple technical instrument from the rhetoric of the anthropologists or other small groups of histori-ans, like religion historians for instance.
Why is the totem revenging at Tirgu Mures, this is a queson Adrian Chira himself might ask me, the one who sampled the concept, deeply rehabilitated it and shied it from the experts’ vocabulary to the framework of our direct existence. Very simple, I might answer, even if none asked me; very simple, it is revenging because it turns into maer of fact, because it comes

De-asta vorbeam despre umanitate, de-asta vorbeam despre răzbunare, de-asta vorbim despre Totem!

out of abstracon, like the younglings who are hatching in the spring, because it comes back again to the direct life, it brings together the humankind, yes, you have read correctly, the hu-mankind, not humans as casual events, isolated ones, because it sets the axes unto their places: consolidates the horizontal and reinvests the vercal.
Then, when around guiding mark are ordered all the idioms of communicaon and all the arts that maers: graphics, painng, sculpture, when all the connents are merging, and Europe, Asia and Africa are breathing together, - America is not taken into account because it is a mere mixture of European-Afro-Asian elements, how could we not see the totem revenge? Because, at the end, the Totem is just the happenstance, that mankind, on the primary axis is one and the same with the na-ture, the animal, the grass, the earth and the sky; on the other axis, the human is one, meaning the Man, that the proximate genus is essenal and the specific difference is accidental.
The totem is essenal at Tirgu Mures, and only circumstanal, some arsts are Romanians, other Germans, other French, oth-er Hungarians, other are yellow, while others are black. That’s why I was talking about humankind, that’s why I was speaking about revenge, that’s why we are talking about the Totem!

“he is from my branch” would be the definion of “totem” concept in the northern-American Indian language, alluding to a clan affiliaon of a tribe, subming to a totem – a protecve animal, plant or object. Faring forth with this definion, mu-tas mutandis, the totem symbol – making it the most in the postmodern art context by everyone’s comprehensive ability, it becomes the bonding that warrants the nexus to the “branch of arsts” for those nearly 60 sculptors, painters and drawers that answered this challenge. The magic of such an assembly between the totemic meaning (extremely vast and generously meaningful) and the creave effervescence of a bunch of beauty contrivers, under the atavisc symbol emblem, was created by the iniator and leader of the project, the arst Adrian Chira. The first idea “enactment” was held in 2002, to become a tradion, and with lile spling reached the sixth edion.
This project launched a very excing esthec stake, to bring together arsts of absolutely disnct approaches and their works around an idea bearing an inexhausble significance, that during the me laid foundaon for numberless social

systems. Within these social systems man is, intenonally or not, inside a network of symbols pung a mark on each individual’s character and warrants the nexus to a certain spiritual, ethnic and geographical area. Having as foundaon the human ancestral religious insnct, the symbol is the result of the emblem investment (austere, pure noonally) with transcendental burden. In between the totem is the object with special features that supports the aspiraons toward sacred and secures the bondage with the primogenitor, the origin itself.
In its essence, the totem was the soul for the tribe, for the naon and for the belonging community. The worship was not addressed to the object itself, but to the emblem, the totem icon. It comes to the fore the scrupulous behavior of the individual toward this alter-ego of his, toward his totem. Over the me were offered countless interpretaons, studies and research approaches in the area, very complex in content and very disnct in fashion. However the totemism pracced nowadays is not primive any longer, but an evolved one. The concept of original kinship renewed, the name and the emblem acquired a symbolic nature.
On the realm of art, totem significance is extended, separated from religious shell, remaining only sap, essence, used somemes as a metaphor or allegory. Totem is no longer approached as a detached object from nature and adorned, or as an arfact in the center of a ritual or a religious system. It assumes other valences, becoming the subject of meless icons, where cultural roots are freed from any style parsanship.
Returning to the real world, during the ritual of iniaon, the one who was to be iniated was formally swallowed by his totem,

then to be given back to the light and thus assimilang the enty’s qualies, and so geng the ideal features of the human kernel to which he belonged. The iniated was thus “dying” to “come to life again” endowed with all the traits that made him a whole man, under the protecon of his totem. Translang to nowadays, the iniated in the arts field is symbolically protected by the totem of his creed. What is preserved from the original meaning is only the seed from which are developed new branches. Thumbing through this registry project, symbols understood as a means of visual communicaon are extracted from their original source. The approaches are from inspired to bold, from combave to dissipaon of the inial significant content or with strong ironical accents and allusive polemics, and become a new status and a new adjacent percepon.
Approaches are very different and somemes slightly slippery from the starng theme. Some of the arsts felt aracted by the oldness of archetypal forms, by the plascity or representaveness of various authenc materials, others felt aracted by the pure emblem in its inner cognion or by the relaonship stuff-effect, esthec-content. Their study flushed them into searching for some new meanings of revaluing this vast visual area, transposed into consonant forms for the contemporary taste and requirements in their individual style code. It is up to the viewer if these conformaon pracces (forcefully or not) prove themselves to be viable in the context of contemporary art and where could this concept meaning extend to (even if viewed in a broader sense), without reaching to a rambling area, and which might that area be?!...
It certainly differenates a total exclusion of totem ritual funcon and a consignment diminishing for the sacred symbols

evoked, without annulling the mystery magnitude. Easily recognizable symbols or signs appear: flowers with healing powers, fish not only as water element, but as food as well, goblet - anthropomorphic or zoomorphic details alluding to sacrifice, pieces of handwring art, characters as graphic effects, collated inserons of quizzing prosaic objects, or on the contrary, referring to the archaeo-straficaon (of memories or events), the all-seeing eye, pictograms, humanoid forms simplified to mere shadows... Sll, their totemic content is more dimmed, the emphasis laying on plasc soluons in large arsc composions, oen beyond convenonal, without inhibion having a strong focus on their dynamic virtues, on the message or on the dialogue with the viewer. Swinging from figurave to nonfigurave through a powerful emphasizing of each gender, styling, showing the essence, diminishing most of the mes the decorave to minimum elements for a well-rounded genre panng, distorng the contours and shape sizes, oversizing, soaring vercals or emphasizing horizontals, approaching hyperrealism or summary drawings by eliminang any realisc reference, an organic geometric shaping act, the artworks have as a true “theme” the fact wherethrough the arst is taking part in what might be called “the phenomenon of creaon.” As expected, in the chromac area the soluons are disnct and highly modulated: vibrant colors, seemingly austere grays, barely different in modulaon, explosive reds of sacrifice, sallow or whispering, complementary tandem with exalted effects, extreme depths painted black on black, and gold emphasizing the sacred.
Deciphering symbols will lead us, as the Paul Klee wrote “Towards the forever untouched primordial depths of the

soul,” for the symbol aaches visible images on “the side of the invisible glimpsed occult.” On the other hand, the symbol lives as long as it bears a meaning, trying to interpret the full meaning of each image would mean a semanc disarraying, the ineffable being revealed as detrimental to mystery.
Under the program “we are from the same branch” - the beauty contrivers – the parcipang arsts believe that regardless of me, symbols will not disappear as long as new interpretaons will be given to new forms of expression.
