The Roman Bath, Bath.
• Roman baths were very important.• There were private and public bath• The Roman bath, in Bath is a fantastic
building.
The Rooms
• First, the Romans got undressed in the changing room
• Then there were 4 main rooms
The caldarium
• It was a hot room with a hot pool
• There was a very clever system to heat the room
The hypocaust or underfloor heating !
• There were columns of bricks under the floor
• The slaves made fires
• The hot air heated the floor and the walls
The laconicum
• This room was extremaly hot
• It was like a sauna
The tepidarium
• It was a warm room with a pool
• There was underfloor heating too
The frigidarium
• This was the last room
• It had a cold pool
In Bath, the water came from a natural hot spring
There was a very sophisticated system of pipes to carry the
water
