BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN AGRICULTURAL BUSINESSThe Bachelor of Science in agricultural business at Sam Houston State University is designed for students interested in management in agriculture. The program includes courses in farm and ranch management, marketing, natural resources, tax planning, budgeting, finance, business organization, and other courses related to business and management.
Students interested in becoming an Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) teacher will minor in secondary education through the College of Education’s accredited educator preparation program. During the student teaching portion of the program, participation is essential in related AFNR and FFA activities such as fairs, livestock and agricultural mechanics shows, contests, FFA alumni and young farmer programs, etc.
REQUIREMENTSMinor: Agricultural business majors must choose an approved minor of at least 18 hours, 9 of which must be advanced. Many agricultural business majors will select minors from program areas within the department, while others will select from the College of Business Administration, such as management, marketing, accounting, banking, finance, or general business administration. Students seeking Agricultural, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) teacher certification should select secondary education as their minor.

STUDENT GROUPSStudents are encouraged to actively participate in professional extracurricular activities. Some of those sponsored by the department include Agricultural Business Club, Delta Tau Alpha, National Agriculture Marketing Association, and Rodeo Club.
SCHOLARSHIPSOnce accepted, students may apply for relevant scholarships by completing the Scholarships4Kats online application. Transfer scholarships are available for students who would like to continue their academic career at Sam Houston.
