Airport Site Suitability Analysis- Final ProjectMohit Khadka, CE 547- GIS in Water Resource Engineering

ResultsIntroduction

This project was done to analyze the availability ofsuitable site for an international airport in Nepal. The major reason for this project was because ofthe present situation of airport in Nepal, which is invery primitive condition. Also, the fact that there isonly one international airport in the entire countryinspired me to carry out this project.

Methods & MaterialsArcGIS was used to do this project. Rivers, roads and land use data was used. Differentweightage was given to these three data toget the final map.

ConclusionsThis shows the Nepal has enough suitable site for airport construction and wide variety of site can be selected considering different factors.

Most Suitable

The future work for the project could include slopeanalysis which would surely filter the areas fromthe northern mountain region. Another analysiscould be to study the possibility of incorporatingany existing airport to the proposed new airportfor service purpose such as apron, hanger, signallocations, emergency teams, etc. Finally, after allthat, economic feasibility analysis and its impact inthe district of the location and country can bestudied to check if the project is viable.
