What do you already know about NCEA?
Brainstorm in twos or threes what you already know about NCEA…
Understanding NCEA
All you need to know to pass NCEA at an Excellence level
To pass Level 1 this year you need to gain 80 Credits overall.
10 of these must be Literacy Credits
And another 10 must be Numeracy Credits
Credit Breakdown
Taking a step up from just passing, you should also be aiming to get course endorsements in your individual subjects.
Excellence Course endorsements are about consistently passing assessments at an Excellence level (in a particular subject).
Excellence Course Endorsements
To gain an excellence course endorsement, you need to achieve at least 14 credits at Excellence in a single subject.
At least 11 internal Excellence credits At least 3 external Excellence credits=Excellence Course Endorsement for that
subject.
(Notice how there is no such thing as Merit? You should always aim for the best!)
Excellence Course Endorsements
This is the Holy Grail. Passing NCEA Level 1 with Excellence is what you’re working towards all year.
An Excellence Certificate Endorsement is when you consistently achieve at Excellence level across ALL of your subjects.
Aim to achieve this internally = LESS STRESS DURING EXTERNALS
Excellence Certificate Endorsement
To gain NCEA Level 1 with Excellence (Certificate Endorsement), you need to gain a minimum of 50 Excellence credits across the board
E.g. 18 excellence from 11RED (all internal) 14 excellence from 11PED (all internal)
18 excellence from 11ENG (11 internal)= 50 Excellence Credits=Excellence Certificate Endorsement!!
Excellence Certificate Endorsement
(*based on compulsory subjects)
NCEA isn’t scary! As long as you have the passion to
achieve to the best of your ability, and don’t mind pushing yourself that little bit EXTRA to get results, NCEA can be a fun and exciting experience
