INTERNATIONAL DEPLOYMENT GROUP
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and itspredecessor, the Commonwealth Police, haveparticipated in traditional peacekeeping missionssince 1964.
The International Deployment Group (IDG) wasestablished in 2004.
The IDG manages deployment of Australian Policeoverseas participating in:
Capacity Development Projects;
Regional/Bi & Multi-lateral Programs;
UN Peacekeeping Missions;
External Territories Community Policing; and
Northern Territory Emergency Response Task Force.

GOAL
To provide leadership within the law and justice sector in the delivery of offshore law enforcement initiatives.
PURPOSE
To contribute to regional and international stability and security on behalf of the Government of Australia.

Contributing to offshore law enforcement initiatives.
Participating in capacity development programs within the law and justice sector.

Deployable pool of over 532 staff
Approximately 366 deployed in Missions (additionally 166 members either on leave or in training for missions).
149 Australia based staff providing support to missions.
In addition the Operational Response Group (ORG) of 132 .
Contributions from some other Australian police services.

INTERNATIONAL DEPLOYMENT GROUP
International Training Complex
Officially opened by the former Prime Minister on 23 June 2005.
Purpose built facility to replicate overseas mission environments.
Training includes capacity development, human rights, cultural awareness and basic skills such as four wheel driving and field first aid.
Used by other organisations.
The training program received formal UN recognition in November 2007.
