Geo-hydrologicalhazardsareamajorthreattohumanlife,property,culturalheritageandthe natural and built environment. They include landslides, floods, debris flows, slopemovements, ground subsidence, soil and coastal erosion, sinkholes and other hazardsrelated to the climate changes and to the local hydro-geological condi>ons. Risk arisesfrom the interplay of these physical processes with social and cultural factors, such asurbaniza>on,emergencyplanning,riskpreparednessandknowledge.ThemissionoftheChairistopromoteresearchanddevelopment(R&D)forthepreven>onandmanagementofgeo-hydrologicalhazards, inordertosupportpoliciesandac>onsofrisk reduc>on. In par>cular, the Chair aims at the implementa>on of the SendaiPartnership 2015-2025, launched at the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduc>on(WCDRR)inSendaibytheInterna>onalStrategyforDisasterReduc>on(ISDR)andbytheInterna>onalConsor>umon Landslides (ICL), for global promo>onofunderstandingandreducing landslide disaster risk, which was also signed by UNESCO and the ItalianGovernment,amongotherpartnersandUNorganiza>ons.
Topromote thedevelopment ofinnovativetechnologies fortheprevention andmitigationofGeo-hydrologicalhazards.
Topromote researchatinternational level byoffering scientific facilitiestopost-graduatedStudentsandvisitingresearchers.
