guide to the reunion’s schedule of events
celebrating our Past, creating our future
2014Reunion
Reunion Weekend 2014 is upon us. On behalf of the Office of Alumni Affairs and the entire Hampton University Family, I extend a warm invitation to classes ending in 4 and 9 to return
to our beloved Home by the Sea on May 9 – 11, 2014. I extend special greetings to the Emeritus Class that returns every year and hearty congratulations to the Golden Class, Class of 1964, on celebrating your 50th Anniversary. Your reunion year is an opportunity to reflect on the impact Hampton has had on your life and reinforce a common sense of belonging to the Alumni Family. The Office of Alumni Affairs has partnered with your Reunion Class Leaders to create a weekend that is meaningful, memorable and provides many opportunities for you to reconnect and have fun!
Reunion is also a natural rallying point for alumni to commemorate their time at Hampton by giving back. Celebrating our Past and Creating our Future – through giving – is a way to strengthen your class legacy while providing the next generation of Hamptonians the ability to receive an “Education for Life.” Therefore, I encourage you to relive the special emotions of being back at our Home by the Sea. You will be reminded of how extraordinary and special the Hampton experience has been, and still is, for all of us. We would truly be honored by your presence during Reunion Weekend. I look forward to welcoming you back in May. In the Hampton Spirit,
Sharon Gates Fitzgerald • Class of 2005 • Director, Alumni Affairs
The Hampton Reunion Weekend is our oasis of opportunity in the desert of our busy lives. At Hampton we can pause and reconnect with friends and classmates. Our reunion theme this year is “Celebrating our Past, Creating our Future”. Stroll the campus and get reacquainted with the place that made a permanent imprint on your life. Catch up with old friends and network. Please make time to attend the plenary session of the National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc. on Saturday morning. This meeting is open to all alumni and we welcome you.
Remember when you walked across the commencement stage and you felt like you would conquer the world? You still can. Celebrate your college experiences in the company of your former classmates. Return and be reminded of just how far you have come. I look forward to seeing YOU at our Home by the Sea! Yours in the Hampton Spirit, Terry Mutakabbir ‘77 • First Vice President, National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc.
Greetings Hamptonians...

Hampton University’s Emeritus Class, lead by Dr. Gladys Hope Franklin White, continues an impressive legacy of leadership through giving. The love, loyalty and commitment of the class is showcased each year as they return to our Home by the Sea for Reunion Weekend.
Reunion 2013 was no different. The class surpassed their goal of $250,000 when they presented a check for $288,917 during the Reunion Dinner Celebration at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. However, by close of the fiscal year, their giving grew far beyond expectations as the University had received over $500,000 from Emeritus Class members.
Thank you for your tremendous leadership through giving. Your continued support is a testament to your belief in the University and strengthens our ability to maintain the Standard of Excellence from which we all benefit.

Your Class Reunion Gift: As you celebrate your anniversary reunion year, making a gift to your alma mater signifies your commitment to the sustainability of Hampton and strengthens your class legacy at the institution. Many alumni have questions as they consider their gift to Hampton University during a reunion year. The following information may help you decide how to support the University during this special anniversary year.
• Each class has an established giving goal for its reunion gift to Hampton University, both percent participation and total dollars raised, and often sets out to achieve new University records.
• Unrestricted gifts are especially important because they provide immediate support for the priorities of the University, which is designed to ensure that Hampton University can attract the best students and faculty and provide them with academic resources and commensurate quality.
• Restricted gifts to other interests and purposes, including planned gifts, are also appreciated and reported in the overall class fundraising total.
• All gifts received between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014 will be credited towards your class fundraising totals. Corporate matching gifts received during this time period will also be included. Pledges must be paid by June 30, 2014 in order to be recognized in class totals.
