10 Del Mar Boutiques That Shoppers LoveAugust 12, 2013 By Katie Dillon Leave a Comment
In Del Mar, it’s all about boutique shopping that’s concentrated in two walkable areas: east of the I5 (Flower Hill
Promenade and the Albertson’s shopping center across the street) and 15th Street. Void of major shopping
malls and most chain stores, supporting local businesses is easy in this seaside community, so avoid the
crowds and head to these fun boutiques that each have something special about them.
1. Annemarie D’Ercole Jewelry and ApparelThis boutique favorite offers chic, casual apparel from designer jeans to Ella Moss, however, clients rave about
the unique, highend jewelry. The line is called Annmarie D’Ercole and includes the likes of hammered gold
tear drop earrings, rose gold and crystal band rings, and more favorites that make a perfect gift and wardrobe
accent. Annmarie can even create custom pieces including heirloom replicas as well as mix in pave
diamonds, precious stones and more.

5. GerhardGerhard carries highend designer labels like Lanvin, martin margiela and Derek Lam that are relatively hard to
find in San Diego. The owner is known for telling it like it is–even sacrificing a sale if the designer piece doesn’t
fit the client exactly. While there’s a little big of men’s accessories, like cuff links, the store carries mostly
women’s handbags, accessories, clothing and even a few bath products. Many fashionable women forgo the
mall and just shop here for designer favorites not likely to be seen on anyone else. Gerhard is located in Del
Mar Plaza with another location in Solana Beach.

6. Carolyn’s Designer ResaleHave designer labels in the closet that you just don’t wear anymore? Discreetly consign them at Carolyn’s
Designer Resale located on 15th street. The website has a form online where you can tell them what you have
and open up a dialogue that could result in extra cash. The boutique’s goal is to provide shoppers with an
opportunity to buy fabulous luxury items without department store prices. Keep in mind that just because it’s
resale, it doesn’t mean a $1000 handbag for under $100. Since many items are oneofakind, if you see
something you love make sure to buy it on the spot.

7. Durante’s MenswearThirty years ago, Durante’s Menswear was the only menswear store in Del Mar. The owner saw a need and it
still remains a rare place in the area for men to find the clothes and accessories for daily wear. It’s the kind of
store that’s built up such a loyal clientele that people drive into Del Mar from all over the county for sage advice
and quality clothing that strikes a nice balance between beach casual and formal wear. The owner, Yvonne
DiChiara, understands that a lot of men don’t like to shop so she helps them find what they need–quickly.

swimwear straight from Europe or Brazil that Julie herself will help you select based on your body type and
personal style. Fashionable maternity swimwear and coverups are also stocked. During the winter, Julie’s
stays seasonal by stocking more clothing in addition to swimwear. The person helping you is usually Julie
herself though she has her dog with her on occasion. Julie’s is located on 15th Street less than a block away
from Del Mar Plaza.

9. Frustrated Cowboy
A westernthemed store might seem out of place in Del Mar, but it is surprisingly popular with locals and
tourists. Between housewares, art and trinkets you really could turn your home into a home on the range or
just implement a cowboy corner. They carry cowboy hats, cowboy boots, and apparel for men, women and
kids. Grab a rhinestone belt or just a few pieces to accent an outfit or get jazzed up for a rodeo. Look for the
cowboy on the sidewalk and you’ll know exactly where the store is. Just be prepared–there’s a lot of inventory
inside.
