summer Flew By...And now it’s back to reality! Hopefully, that reality will be an exciting, fresh start for your family. There are a few changes that will take some getting used to, including new teachers, new classrooms, and new classmates. There is also a lot to look forward to, including new friends and tons of new Community Education class choices for the kids!

After school is a great time to expose children to the arts and sciences through hands-on, creative exploration. Be sure to check out the new options like Bicycling and Fishing Adventures, Redtail Ridge Dance Team, Junior Golf, and Tremendous Tuesdays at Grainwood. Middle school and high school students will want to check out the listings for the Drama Club Musical, Middle School Mania, and the ACT, SAT/PSAT Test Prep classes.

If none of those options meet your interests or your schedule, consider one of the nights and weekends programs, or a family program like the new Super Hero Training Camp, A Free Family Movie, or Wildflower Wonders of Fall.

You should also be receiving a separate Adult Programs catalog from Community Education. Between the two publications, we hope you will find options to keep your entire family excited throughout fall!

Sincerely,Carrie DobieYouth Programs Coordinator

all i really need to Know i learned By BeinG in a Bad Play(aGes 6-17)Stagehands Productions performance based program encourages you to develop artistic, social and personal skills through the exploration of your own creativity and expression. This course aims to cultivate stage presence, performance technique and an appreciation of the performing arts. This creative environment nurtures your natural gifts and develops the strengths critical to theatrical performances, such as character development, vocalization, focusing on diction and projection, memorization and choreography. Based on several disastrous theatrical experiences, Bad Play peels back a tattered curtain to examine the process of putting on a show that is less than good. A stuffy narrator (what bad play is complete without a stuffy narrator?) guides the audience through the whole sorry process. We go from the audition—where the director is more worried about roast beef than paying attention to the warm-up exercise, and the neurotic cast pretends to be bacon—to rehearsals—where a passive-aggressive stage manager gives everyone grief. There’s also a special meeting of the Small Part Support Group and a production of Romeo and Juliet set in a Starbucks with costumes of potato sacks and bowler hats. This bad play within a play won’t win any awards, but All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play will keep audiences in stitches. Description taken from www.dramaticpublishing.com. Auditions are held during the second session. Additional fees are charged to attend performances ($5 per attendee), however each cast member will receive two complimentary tickets to one performance.
