Recyclable packaging tapes
Gummed paper tape is an environmentally friendly option for sealing cardboard boxes. The adhesive backing needs to be water activated before application.
Self adhesive paper tape requires no wetting before application, it is ready to use off the roll due to its high strength adhesive backing. A great alternative to traditional packaging tapes with environmental benefits.

How do I choose a box?
Choosing the most suitable cardboard box for your requirements can
appear to be a daunting task! The below information and following pages
will demonstrate some of the options available to you. Do not hesitate
to give us a call or email to speak to our technical sales team for
assistance or advice.
Measuring a box
All box measurements are based on the internal dimensions. We
need to know the Length (L), Width (W) and Height (H) of the box
in millimetres (mm) to ensure your boxes are made to the correct
size.
Choosing a box style
Boxes come in many styles and usually carry a style code, for example
‘0201’. These style codes are called ‘FEFCO’ styles. We split our
FEFCO styles into ‘Standard Boxes’ and ‘Die Cut Boxes’. We can
however also create completely bespoke designs too!
Single wall or double wall
The walls of a cardboard box come in a variety of thicknesses:
single wall, double wall and triple wall. A thicker wall increases the
strength and protection offered by a box. Our technical sales team will
recommend a wall thickness based on the weight of your products.
Plain, printed or with fitments
As standard we offer our boxes in plain brown or white. We also offer
the option to have your boxes printed with a variety of different print
options (see page 18). If you need a fitment inside your box to hold your
product(s) we can create these too (see page 18).

Standard box styles manufactured to any size
Standard cardboard boxes come in a range of styles with the ‘0201’ style being universally the most popular manufactured box of all time. Standard box styles are cost effective, quick to manufacture and can be produced to any size or quantity.
Boxes for more complex packaging
Die cut boxes are the solution to more complex packaging problems which can’t be solved with a standard box. They are manufactured by being stamped out of corrugated board so more complex designs can be created. For example, certain types of die cut box can eliminate the need for tape to seal a box by creating interlocking flaps, resulting in a better first impression to your customer.

Printed boxes, bespoke designs and fitments
Precise packaging for your products
Bespoke designs and fitments are ideal to maximise product yield per box and eliminate unnecessary space to maximise the efficiency of transporting goods. Box fitments can be made from corrugated, foam or more unique solutions such as Korrvu® suspension / retention packaging. Reusable options are also available to reduce packaging waste.
Give a better first impression
Printed boxes are great for retail ready packaging, stock identification purposes or to increase brand awareness. Newtown can supply boxes printed using a number of different print processes to suit your requirements.
The three different types of print we offer are:
Litho (offset) Print: Litho print offers the best quality print with photographic printing results. Great for high end retail packaging for products such as electronics, cosmetics and food boxes. Litho print is best for high volume production runs to achieve optimum pricing.
Digital Print: Digital print offers great quality (similar to Litho), making it again suitable for high end retail packaging. Digital print is more cost effective than Litho print in smaller quantities and requires minimum or zero tooling fees.
Flexo Print: Flexo print has a much lower quality print compared to Litho and Digital. It is best suited for larger runs with simple designs of 3 colours or less due to photographic results being much harder to achieve.

Printing Type Litho Flexo Digital
Wooden crates, cases and pallets
Wooden crates and cases are suitable for sea freight shipments of heavy equipment / products. They can also be lined with various materials such as foam for extra protection. The difference between a crate and a case is that a case in boarded to all sides, whilst a crate is open boarded.
All crates and cases are made to order.
Pallets can be supplied four-way entry or two-way entry in a variety of different grades (new or used).

Stretch wrap (hand use)
Stretch wrap or pallet wrap is used to hold a number of items together, usually to a pallet. We supply stretch wrap in three grades: light duty, medium duty and heavy duty. Options include black or clear colours and the choice of having the rolls on a flush or extended core.

Stretch wrap (machine use)
Machine stretch wrap is suitable for use on stretch wrap machines, also known as turntable machines. We supply machine stretch wrap in three grades: light duty, medium duty and heavy duty which are available in black or clear colours.
The Ecoplat Base is a simple and reliable pallet stretch wrapping machine. The programme can be pre-set so the operator only attaches the film and presses start. With a 1650mm turntable which is the H&S recommended minimum size for 1200mm x 1000mm pallets with a load capacity of 2000kg.

Our polythene sheeting is available as single wound or centrefold and in a range of thicknesses to suit your specification. It is supplied as a continuous sheet on a roll but can be supplied perforated to a specific specification.
Lay flat tubing is a continuous tube of polythene supplied on a roll. It can be cut and sealed at each end to create a secure bag protecting all around your products. Available in various widths from 1” to 48” (25mm to 1200mm) giving you a good choice of sizes to fit your products. There are different thicknesses to choose from; 120g to 1000g (30mu to 250mu.) The two standard options are 250 gauge and 500 gauge.

Grip seal bags
Our grip seal bags are strong clear polythene and re-usable ideal for protecting your products against dirt and moisture. The sealing remains firmly shut when closed but easily opens and closes again. We have an extensive range of sizes available also available in plain or with write on panels allowing you to identify you products easily.

Polypropylene strapping is used for banding packages, cartonsand pallets ensuring secure transport of goods. It is strong, non-corroding and versatile. Standard widths are 5mm, 9mm, 12mm and 15mm and breaking strains between 50 and 300kg. Available for use with hand held tools or machines.
Polyester strapping is used in the same way as PP strapping but has many advantages. It is as strong as steel but a lot safer to work with; it is non-corrosive so will not leave unsightly stains on your products and packaging. It is specifically designed for palletising and bundling products.

Strapping seals can be used with polypropylene, polyester and steel strapping materials. Standard seals hold banding together to create a strong seal. Used on light, medium and heavy duty strapping. Serrated strapping seals have serrated teeth on the inside, allowing them to grip onto the strapping securely that helps to improve the breaking strain of the strapping. Used on heavy duty strapping.
