Consolidation is also a key driver. Today, many IT departments are using multiple solutions for MDM and yet another to manage mobile applications. But with new solutions available to manage all aspects of enterprise mobility from a single, unified console, that’s no longer necessary. And there are huge potential savings in operational costs to be realized when you control everything – including applications – through one platform. What many enterprises gloss over in the decision process is the implementation stage. And it’s a factor that needs attention, because smartphone migration can be resource intensive and challenging, for even the most advanced IT organizations.

Your New EMM Platform: How to Streamline the Migration

In a recent research report, Forrester® found that nearly half of the IT VP respondents were planning to implement, expand or upgrade an MDM solution in the year ahead.1

As those organizations work through the decision process, their focus will be on the many potential benefits, like tighter security and control, time-savings for IT administrators and increased productivity for end users.

And it’s a factor that needs attention, because smartphone migration can be resource-intensive and challenging, for even the most advanced IT organizations.

The challenges of implementing any MDM solution

As early on in the buying process as possible, enterprises should be thinking about how they’ll get from A to B. Among the key questions they should be asking:

Do we have sufficient resources to handle the migration process ourselves?

Do we have experience and expertise in-house with a transition like this?

How much might it cost us (in both time and money) to work through the process ourselves?

Are there automation tools we could be accessing to help speed up the transition?

How much support will we be able to leverage from the solution provider?

How will we train our end users on what’s changed?

What’s our plan if we encounter unforeseen technical issues?

There’s a lot to think about, a lot to plan and a lot to do, but if you choose the right solution for EMM – one that’s designed to last you long into the future – it’s well worthwhile.

Take BlackBerry® Enterprise Service 10 (BES10). It’s a complete Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platform for managing all aspects of your mobile environment. That includes both corporate-owned and BYOD BlackBerry®, iOS or Android™ devices; mobile applications, data and content; security, policies and controls; and much more. And the great news is that there are services available to make the process of getting to EMM solutions like BES10 simple, fast and cost effective.

Best practices, expertise, experience: What ISEC7 brings to the process

For more than ten years, ISEC7 has partnered with BlackBerry to help customers move beyond voice and email to do more with their mobile platforms. ISEC7 has a long history of successful mobility management consulting and change management – in fact, the company’s consultants have migrated 460,000 devices, logging 14,500 days on migration and integration projects. And already, they’ve helped enterprises move thousands of end users to the BES10 platform.

CEO Marco Gocht explains why customers such as BNP Paribas and Vodafone have embraced ISEC7 for migration: “If you look at our typical enterprise customers, they have thousands of devices operating on multiple continents, from dozens of offices around the world. You need to have a transition plan for the migration phase and a schedule for these migrations. You need to establish a training plan, as well as a process for sending in the old devices so the company can get a refund. Our experience allows us to put best practices to work, and our involvement means customers can free up their own IT resources.”

Speed is another key aspect. ISEC7 uses its groundbreaking migration tool, B*Nator, to automatically move information from BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 4 or 5 – or any other MDM platform – to BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10.

Proven. Worldwide.

Effective, secure mobility is critical to the productivity and success of your business. Anyone can claim they are the best at mobility management. Only BlackBerry® has the numbers to prove it:

› 14 years of mobility management expertise. We invented MDM – now we’re leveraging that experience to shape EMM today.

› 665+ carriers and distribution partners offer BlackBerry products and services in more than 175 countries around the world.2

› Over 30,000 BES10 commercial and test servers installed globally.3

› BlackBerry has more global EMM customers than the competition combined.4

› 45 security certifications2 – more than any other mobile vendor. We are the only mobile vendor to receive the “Authority to Operate” certificate from the US Department of Defense.5

For the parts of the migration that require users to take action, the process is foolproof. The mobile administrator schedules the migration. Then, users receive an email with a link to a self-service portal where they’re guided through basic tasks like deactivating their current device, activating the new one, watching a training video and accessing company-specific FAQs.

Performed manually, a typical platform smartphone migration of any kind takes 30+ minutes per device. With B*Nator, says Gocht, “we’re able to move 2,500 devices in one day, with an average success rate of 98%.”

All told, the potential savings are significant. On its recent migration of 11,500 smartphones, a leading bank saved 60% compared to the cost of handling the transition in-house. And that’s typical for ISEC7 customers.

What to consider before you migrate

Whether you’re still deciding on an EMM solution or you’re about to implement it, there are a few key migration factors you’ll want to weigh as soon as possible. ISEC7 begins by asking a series of simple but important questions to ensure all scenarios are properly accounted for in the new environment.

› Use cases: How exactly does your enterprise use mobile IT today (e.g. phone, PIM, apps, PBX, additional security needs)?

› Scope of the migration: How many users are transitioning? What’s the preferred migration path and timeframe? What are the major internal concerns?

› Existing infrastructure: What’s the mix of BlackBerry and non-BlackBerry devices? What groupware is in play? How many locations are involved?

› Stakeholders: Who’s involved (e.g. internal IT, external consultants, customers, business units, countries, regions)?

› IT/Mobile Security: What are the relevant and required policies, networks, software configurations, compliance requirements or legal regulations?

› Business case: Does it make operational and financial sense to outsource the migration? ISEC7 can help you work out the numbers.
