Your "inner critic."

Page 2: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

You most likely know this voice,

Page 3: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

even though you may never have identified it as an "inner critic."

Page 4: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

The first step is to identify that voice and identify the times when you hear it.

Page 5: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

These are situations where you are brought back to a fixed rather than a growth mindset.

Page 6: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

To do this, you simply need to

Page 7: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

practice awareness.

Page 8: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

Start by identifying the voice

Page 9: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

when you hear it.

Page 10: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

Next, try to remember what event preceded those negative thoughts.

Page 11: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

It's a bit like trying to identify what is causing a stomach ache.

Page 12: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

You have to go back and try to remember what you ate just before.

Page 13: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

If you're not sure you've identified your inner critic yet, try looking for cues.

Page 14: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

For example, look for times when you find that you're doubting yourself, saying something like,

Page 15: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

"Can I really do this?"

Page 16: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

Or be aware of when you're focusing on failure rather than success;

Page 17: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

for example, where you're worrying about what will happen

Page 18: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

if you fail at something.

Page 19: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

A good place to look for

Page 20: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

your fixed mindset voice

is any time

Page 22: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

you're trying something new or challenging.

Page 23: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

These are the most common situations where this negative voice arises.

Page 24: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

Now let's reframe these thoughts.

Page 25: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

Once you can recognize the voice,

Page 26: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

you can learn to control it.

Page 27: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

The way that you interpret challenges, obstacles, or criticism that you face is up to you.

Page 28: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

But this is the most challenging step

Page 29: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

for most people.

Page 30: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

It is difficult to reframe the voice

Page 31: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

when you have well-grooved patterns.

Page 32: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

The way to think about reframing is to imagine giving advice to a friend.

Page 33: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

Naturally, you would never use a

Page 34: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

harsh, critical voice when trying to

Page 35: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

help a friend.

Page 36: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

If you would never do this with a friend, why are you doing it with yourself?

Page 37: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

We are generally harsher on ourselves than we are with others,

Page 38: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

so instead of talking to yourself, imagine that

Page 39: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

you're giving advice to a good friend.

Page 40: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

Take each statement that your inner voice gives you and imagine if it were a friend, your partner, or a family member who was saying it to themselves.

Page 41: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

Now, imagine that you're giving them advice and reframe the negative statement that was made.

Page 42: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

For example

Page 43: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

"Are you sure you can do that?

Page 44: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

You don't have the right skills to take that on."

Page 45: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

BECOMES

Page 46: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

"I'm not sure I can do it, but I can learn with practice and effort. "

Page 47: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

"What if I fail? I'll be a failure"

Page 48: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

BECOMES All successful people have failures.

Page 49: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

I can learn from my failure."

"She's a natural at business. Besides, her family runs a business.

Page 51: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

I could never be as good as her."

Page 52: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

BECOMES "She's successful in her business, and

Page 53: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

I can learn from her."

Page 54: Your inner critic, you can learn to control it.

For example, some Intelligence examples

"I can't do that. I'm not smart enough to take that on."
