Design Task 2Bush walkers Hut

Bushwalking is a popular pastime for people of all ages in Australia. In National parks all over Australia bush walking tracks can be found.Tracks range in length from a few kilometres to those extending many kilometres and taking a number of days to complete. On the longer tracks basic overnight facilities are sometimes provided to allow people to sleep relatively comfortably without the need to erect tents. Your task will be to design an environmentally friendly bush walker’s hut. The hut should be designed to blend in with the local environment.A three dimensional model of the final design for the hut will be produced.

Construction task term3

Measure all pieces to exact.

Sizes

PARTS LWT NO REQUIEDStilts 20mmx20mm 5X

top sides of roof 180mmx115mm 2xBase 140mmX140mm 1X

Ceiling 140mmX140mm 1Xwalls 140mmX140mm 4x

triangles for roof 140mmx50mm 2x10xInside pieces(radita pine) 40mmx20mm 9x

Construction steps First measure all sides using a steel ruler Then measure walls to exact cut them with a tenon saw After that sand them using garnet paper on a sanding bock then cut top and bottom pieces using a tenon saw Then measure out side roof pieces and cut them out using a cooping saw Then cut out the stilts using a different type of wood called radiata pine Then after you’ve got all the pieces start to put It together First put one piece of radita pine on each wall at the bottom Then using a drill press drill holes on the 4 sides of the windows and on the 2 top corners of

the door. Then using a cooping saw cut out the windows and the door Then put a bit of PVA glue on the bottom and stick it onto the base while drying turn it over

and nail 3 nails into it repeat until all walls are on. Then put ceiling on and nail it together then put the roof together using hot glue then nail it After that hot glue roof onto my Then hot glue the gaps together.

Evaluation

Must be big enough for 5 peopleYes I think it should be big enough to fit 5 people.

Page 12: Year 7 Design and Technology Folio by Olivia

Must have roof Yes it does have a roof on top of my house

Must have wooden floorsYes it does have a wooden floor because I made it out of wood

Must blend in with the environmentYes it could blend in with the environment because I can paint it whatever colour I want it to be.

Must have space outside for camp fireYes it does have space for a campfire outside because I can create room somewhere in front of the hut.

Must have gutterNo I did not put a gutter on my model but it would be easy to put one on.

Must have a small fire place for winterNo I did not put a fireplace in because we did not do the inside of the hut but it would be easy to put one in

Must have kitchen with benchNo I did not put a kitchen because we did not do the inside of the hut but it would be easy to put one in.

Must have space for fire wood outsideYes I did leave space for fire wood outside under the hut.

Must have curtainsNo it does not have because we did not go into much detail and curtains would be easy and quick to put in if I had to.
