Designing for a community Year 12 Semester 1 Task The design folio assessment technique requires you to document a design process in response to the identified real-world design problem. Design problem People are sometimes unaware the difficulties they experience in their daily lives can often be improved by identifying the problem/s and devising a solution/s. Context Community, student-identified field Need or opportunity You are to investigate aspects of your local community and identify a need or opportunity that requires a problem solution. Length 1000–1500 words plus a product You will engage in a design process with three stages: • exploring a design problem • developing ideas • producing a product. In the design process, these stages should lead to the development of new ideas and an innovative product.

• valid and thorough justification of decisions and well-reasoned recommendations
• discerning and thorough evaluation of ideas and products using design criteria.
