‘I have worked with this team for 18 months before that I worked on temporary staffing for 1 year. I worked many shifts on a variety of wards within the hospital but always liked this particular team, so endeavoured to book as many shifts as I could there. I always found the staff very welcoming; everyone always works as a team and willing to help each other whenever they can.

The ward managers are always on top of all the training so all staff has opportunities to not only complete mandatory training but also encouraged to go on study days of your own choice.

You are involved in ideas for improving the ward and we have regular meetings where we can discuss any ideas or issues we may have. I feel that it is a very happy, lively ward. Staff morale is good and everyone gets along. This all goes towards our patients having great care and as good a stay in hospital as they possibly can.

I would highly recommend our ward as a great ward to work on!!’ K. DAVY HCA

‘As an OT working around the hospital, I can honestly say that this is an exceptional ward regarding enthusiasm and I feel very supported within my role in the MDT. They are a brilliant team to work with.’ E. GREEN OT

‘The ward work as a team and you can tell this as they know their patients and know processes. They are all very proactive and organised. It is a pleasure to work with such a proactive and organised ward team.’ J. WILTON SW

‘I just felt I had to write to you to congratulate all the staff on Erringham ward at Worthing hospital. I cannot begin to explain how kind and helpful all the staff have been on the ward at what has obviously been a very stressful time for our family. The ward clerk Jan the oracle of the ward has been superb in helping with any queries we had, she also is so organised things just gets done she facilitates. Essentially, the whole ward works as a committed team and as a teacher I really understand the importance and benefit of this. Ward sisters such as Tammy and Clare along with the staff nurses who are so professional and make sure they communicate with the patients checking their emotional wellbeing, along with administering excellent nursing care.

In addition to the wonderful nursing staff the ward could not run effectively without the superb Healthcare assistants who always again have time to answer any questions and go the extra mile like getting nice yoghurts to tempt someone with a low appetite, arranging wheelchairs for fresh air breaks outside. Small acts of kindness like this really make Erringham Ward have such a welcoming feel to it. The Healthcare assistants have all been so supportive and kind’.

Aiming to improve the care we provide to our patients, by improving the patient experience and outcomes, and adapting to the future needs of our changing and ageing population. Care is focused around the patients, who receive treatment led by one consultant, from a multi-disciplinary team, in a single setting. The department is designed so patients benefit from the expertise of medical doctors, surgeons and elderly care specialists, and nurses, working together who previously operated more independently in different departments.

• Staffing Ratios of 1 trained nurse to 6 patients in line with RCN recommendations. • The Emergency Floor offers a great opportunity for nurses to enhance their clinical skills

and expertise with opportunities of promotion within the area. • Aiming to provide better safer care which through early intervention will help reduce hospital

stays, often being discharged in less than 72 hours, or being moved onto a speciality ward.

Friends & Family Feedback

• 4.89/5 extremely likely to recommend • Very good staff and food • They explained what was happening • Friendly and efficient
