During these period, the distillation and sale of alcohol was illegal. However entrepreneurs soon started making bathtub gin and bootleg whisky, known as moonshine in their homes and selling the dreadful stuff to public. To disguise the appearance and improve the flavor of these crude spirits, barmen started adding the fruit juices, syrups and other mixtures. So cocktail era (1920-37) was born.World of cocktails ORIGIN OF THE NAMEIn 1779 a buxom Irish lady called Betsy Flanagan, widow of revolutionary soldier, kept a tavern much frequented by French and American officers during the American War of Independence. One day she stole some chickens from her pro British neighbor and prepared them for dinner. She kept to one side the feathers from the cocks tail and as the officers entered the tavern, they were served with their favorite mixed drink decorated with a feather. The officers were so impressed, one of them proposed the toast VIVE LE COCKTAIL. World of cocktailsSHAKENFROZENBLENDEDMUDDLEDBUILD UPSTIRREDWorld of cocktails COCKTAIL STRUCTURE-
