3. welding process
In principle the international and national guidelines are to be observed.
First of all, the two workpieces to be welded are put into the clamping device, the fitting is
clamped at the stop of the clamping device.
Then the zero offset is effected and the pipe can be clamped in such a way that both
workpieces can be heated up at the same time (heat-up time) to welding temperature with the
help of a socket or spigot-shaped heating element.
After swinging out the heating element (change-over time) the workpieces are pushed into
each other and cooled down (cool-down time).
The pipe end, heating element and fitting socket are to match each other in size in such a way
that a joining pressure will build up during joining.
At the end of the cool-down time the welded joint can be unclamped, the welding process is
finished.

5. starting and operating
The statements of this chapter should help you operate the machine. It also should lead you to
start the machine appropriately. This comprises:
• operating the machine safely
• making use of the possibilities offered
• running the machine economically
5.1. starting
The machine may be operated by trained and authorized persons only.
For qualification a plastic welder examination according to DVS and
DVGW can be taken.
• If dangers occur unplug the machine immediately.
• After completion of the welding work and during breaks the machine is to be switched off
and the legitimacy card is to be removed. Furthermore, you have to make sure that no
unauthorized persons have access to the machine.
• Protect the machine from wetness and moisture !
• For working at the building site use a current distributor with a FI-security protective
switch.
• Screw the cleaned and grease-free heating socket / spigot with the appropriate diameter
onto the heating element (heating socket on the left / heating spigot on the right).
• Screw on the prismatic clamping tools which correspond to the diameter range (on the
right-hand side there must be the fitting stops to clamp the fitting).
• Connect the heating element to the power supply system (230 V / 50 Hz).
• Environment:
− do not weld below 5° C or 41° Fahrenheit, if necessary heat up before welding
− avoid humidity, if necessary put up a tent
• In case of ambient temperatures under 5° C or 41° Fahrenheit the following measures have
to be taken:
− If need be, put up a welding tent and heat up the pipe ends
• Take measures against rain, wind and dust.
Page 18

starting and operating
working instructions WIDOS 3600 page 18
5.2. welding process
In principle, the valid welding regulations (ISO/CEN/DVS...) are to be observed.
Put on safety gloves to protect you from being burned !
• A Stop-watch is to be available in order to be able to register the actual times for heating up
and cooling down.
• A table is to be available from which you can read the parameters that are prescribed by the
welding regulation for the pipe dimension to be welded.
• The heating element socket / spigot are to be clean and, above all, free from grease.
Therefore they are to be cleaned with non-fraying paper and detergent (e.g. spirit) before
every welding or if they are dirty.
The anti-stick coating of the heating element is to be undamaged in the working area.
• The workpieces (fitting and pipe) to be welded are to be clean, too. If need be, clean them
with detergent and non-fraying paper.
• The pipe end is to be chamfered to approximately 15°.
approx. 15°
2-3 mm
• Switch on the heating element and adjust the necessary welding temperature (guide value
PEHD: 260° C or 500° Fahrenheit) at the adjustment screw at the handle.
- If the control lamp flashes, the nominal temperature has been reached and is kept
constant by means of a defined pulse-pause ratio.
Retrieve the values for heat-up, change-over and cool-down time from the table.
Page 19
Kunststo ffschweißtechni k
starting and operating
working instructions WIDOS 3600 page 19
• Press the fitting in the right-hand clamping tool to the stop, clamp it tightly and
counterclamp with the support (see point 4.3.).
• Open the machine, press the push-button (6) and keep it pressed. Close the machine until it
reaches the stop (zero position).
If need be, secure the position with the help of the lever handle for arresting (5).
• Put in the chamfered pipe so that the end face is adjacent to the fitting.
• Clamp the pipe tightly.
Since the heating element is not arrested after being swung in and remains movable
upwards, no vertical alignment check needs to be carried out.

Clamping tools may be moved in lateral axis (max. 10 mm).
For that purpose, loosen the hexagonal fixing screw (size 5) and turn round the adjusting nut
(size 32) to the right position. Screw down the fixing screw again.
fig. 4
• Loosen the lever handle and open the machine.
• Set the diameter stop to the diameter to be processed.
• Swing in the heating element that has been brought to temperature (flashing control lamp).
• Slowly move the support together ba applying little force until pipe and fitting are
completely inserted (both workpiece are to touch the heating socket / spigot at the same
time).
illustration 5
• Press the stop-watch; the change-over time starts at the end of the heat-up time:
Open the machine swiftly, swing out the heating element and slowly move the supports
together by applying little forve until pipe and fitting are completely inserted (change-over
time) and secure it against re-opening by means of the arresting lever.
• Now the cool-down time begins.
The welding process is finished at the end of the cool-down time.
Loosen the arresting lever and unclamp and take out the pieces.

• Only use original WIDOS spare parts.
The prescribed maintenance and inspection work is to be carried out within the
period stipulated. DVS recommends inspection work after 1 year. In the case of
machines that are extremely much in use the inspection cycle should be shorter.
The work is to be carried out at WIDOS GmbH or at an authorized dealer.
7.2. storing
• Guide rods, gear racks, gear wheel and trapezoidal spindles are to be kept free from dirt and
covered with a thin oil film.
• Cover the machine if not in use.
• Keep the machine dry.
7.3. transport
• Pay attention that the cable of the heating element is not squeezed.
⇒ Protect it from heavy vibrations and shocks.
⇒ Make sure that the box cover is correctly locked.
• The machine is to be handled carefully.
