Work Sample # 1 – Conceptual Estimating
1. Steps to complete work sample are as follows:a. Complete Quantity Take Off using On Screen Take Off Software.b. Input quantities into Pinkard Constructions Conceptual Estimation Form.c. Solicit sub-contractors for budgetary pricing for major scopes of work.
i. Such as:1. Drywall, Framing, Mechanical, etc.
d. Compare sub contractors pricing with Pinkard pricing.e. Present to Owner.
2. Goals Addressed:a. Goal # 1 – To become more efficient, comprehensive and detailed in the estimating
process.i. This type of estimating provides good practice in becoming more accurate with
QTY Take Off and realistic pricing.b. Goal # 2 – Become more proficient in utilizing the software for managing estimates as
well as subcontractor proposal management.i. Performing these tasks allows me to more fully understand and better utilize
Pinkard Conceptual Estimating form as well as bid soliciting software. 3. What I Learned:
a. Subcontractors with their years of experience behind them usually know their scope of work extremely well.
b. Subcontractors know what systems are cost effective and how to save a project money.

1. Steps to complete work sample are as follows:a. Create Scope Summary Sheetb. Review subcontractors pricing for the scope of workc. Identify any inclusions or exclusions d. Confirm by phone or email that the pricing provided is in conformance with the
specifications and contract documents.e. If pricing provided does not meet specifications or contract documents, ask for a revised
proposal.2. Goals Addressed:
a. Goal # 5 – Acquire and understanding for pricing of quantities in comparison with market values.
i. Reviewing theses scopes of work helps me understand how similar the material is priced and how different labor prices can be.
3. What I Learned:a. Most subcontractors understand all their scopes of work very well and usually include
everything in their price. However, some do make mistakes and forget to include certain

portions of the work. Identifying these missed or forgotten portions of work will help the project run smoother.
b. It is also important to make sure all subs have the same materials listed so that their comparison is equal and fair.
