Work Area Manager Testing What are my options?
Work Area Manager Testing
What are my options?
IntroductionHopefully you would not go on a long road trip without making a list of things to check before you get on the road. Most likely you would check your tire pressure, oil, gas, spare tire, and so forth, directions to where you are going along, a paper or electronic map in case there are detours, clothes, and of course snacks and refreshments. In other words, you would have a plan. The same is true for testing.
StrategizeThink about what you want to test, (example reflex messages, rule changes)
Do you really need to use an instrument or can you achieve the desired outcome with the emulator or can you just use WAM?Come up with a plan Do you need an electronic order and what needs to be in the order?
If patient demographics are a consideration make sure the electronic order contains needed information. If testing delta values a medical record number and at least two orders will be needed. (To avoid complications use new
orders) If you need the results in the LIS then you need an order to come into WAM. Before you send results to WAM you want to make sure the order has been received in WAM ***Testing unregistered rules is an exception. List the test cases you need and goal (ex: above limit, at limit, below limit.) Document your testing As you test each case document the Sample ID, Medical Record #, mark each case as pass/fail Check audit log when testing rules to make sure the rule you are testing is the rule that executed.

Need or want to send a rerun? Make sure the SID is the same, change values as needed and press send
Hint:
*If your results look like they went through but you don’t see them in WAM, check the unregistered in case the bar code length is different.**It’s a good idea to make at least one value different from the first run so you can tell them apart. It helps when evaluating your results.*
Testing with the analyzer?Do you have separate ports setup in TEST? If not we can set them up for you.
***Most of the time this will work quite well but if you receive a tcp/ip port is closed message, please call us to restart the interface.***

Patch Testing
You need to follow your full workflow when testing. If there are multiple sites with even slightly different workflows or rules, those sites need to test also.More testing is better than less testing. If you see a change that pertains to you in the product notice add that too.
This ant tested really well in Test
This ant did the minimum testing in Test
And is humming along in Production
And has gotten himself in a jam in Production
Don’t be so antsy to get testing over with that you end up in a bad situation in Production.
Here’s to a well planned, successful testing that gets you
where you want to be!!!
